Air Freight Pricing Clerk in Manchester

The Company

Our client is a well-established and growing freight forwarder, working across sea, air and road. They've recently acquired another business and are investing in their pricing and commercial function as a result. This is a genuinely exciting time to join, with real scope to shape how the department runs.

The Role

This is a new position, created to give the air freight pricing function its own dedicated focus. The team is currently strongest in sea freight, so they're looking for someone who can bring air freight pricing expertise and help build that capability across the wider group, while picking up sea freight knowledge in return.

The role reports into the pricing and commercial lead and offers genuine progression. There's no management responsibility to start with, but a real opportunity to build influence with airlines and suppliers, and to grow with the department as it develops.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare and manage air freight import, export and cross-trade pricing and quotations
• Calculate chargeable and volumetric weight, applying minimum charges, tariffs, local costs and surcharges accurately
• Build and maintain relationships with airlines and suppliers to secure competitive rates
• Support the sales team with pricing for tenders and new business opportunities
• Keep rates, validity and routing information accurate and up to date
• Work closely with the wider commercial and ops teams as the department's structure evolves
• Support multimodal pricing and wider business objectives where needed

Essential Skills & Experience

• Around 3 to 4 years' air freight pricing experience, gained within freight forwarding, an airline, a General Sales Agent, a consolidator, or a logistics provider
• Strong knowledge of air freight import, export and cross-trade pricing, including routings, airport codes, transit times, capacity and service options
• Confident calculating chargeable and volumetric weight, and applying minimum charges, tariffs, local costs and surcharges
• Advanced Excel skills, with strong numerical and analytical ability
• Good understanding of freight terminology, Incoterms, customs interfaces, aviation security and airline acceptance requirements
• High accuracy when managing rates, validity, routing and commercial assumptions
• Strong organisation and time management, able to prioritise time-sensitive pricing requests
• Effective communicator, confident negotiating with suppliers and building relationships
• Commercially aware, with the ability to identify competitive and profitable air freight solutions

Desirable

• Pricing experience across ocean and/or road freight
• Experience pricing dangerous goods, temperature-controlled, oversized, high-value or time-critical air freight
• Experience with freight management systems, pricing systems, rate management tools or CRM systems
• Knowledge of the UK and Ireland freight market, and experience supporting sales, tenders or account management
