£13 to £14 per hour (£27,040 to £29,120 per annum based on a 40-hour week). Business premises are located near Stover School in Newton Abbot. Join our friendly and experienced management team running a £13 million garden centre business.

Please Note: Weekend and Bank Holiday working is required on a rota basis.

What does the role generally require and include:

  • Our retail team is looking for experienced retail supervisors with career aspirations to help run a very busy garden centre in Newton Abbot.
  • Responsibilities will vary between running a payment area at busy times to helping to merchandise garden sundries, tools, and garden plants.
  • We are looking for talented and experienced retail staff who can take our business forward by taking responsibility for merchandising departments and showing leadership and problem-solving on a daily basis.
  • Applicants need to be physically fit, able to lift and carry, and enjoy the physical processes of working in a garden centre retail environment.
  • The garden centre operates seven days a week, so weekend working will be required. Occasional early mornings and/or late-night support might be needed during peak trading times.

Our company, Joyners Plants Ltd, is a leading regional retailer and grower of garden plants and horticultural products at four large garden centre stores located in Plymouth, Newton Abbot, Exeter, and Yeovil. We employ between 85 to 125 employees at peak trading. Established since 1959, our company operates profit share schemes and bonus schemes by invitation for employees. The company plans to continue to expand and is recruiting for new full-time positions.

Responsible For:

  • Taking payments from customers and supervising other till staff to ensure they follow procedures and policies at all times.
  • Liaising with head office regarding all paperwork and using our computer/WhatsApp communications as required to run the store successfully.
  • Site security and staff management.
  • Helping the managers to physically operate the store each day, which will involve general lifting and carrying and working on your feet all day.
  • Merchandising the entire store with new displays of garden plants or garden products/sundries throughout the store and keeping the store clean and well presented.
  • Other roles to assist with holiday cover.

Additional Requirements:

  • The role requires applicants to work Monday to Sunday on a rota basis. Weekend working will be required.
  • Holiday is pro rata based on hours worked – approx. 28 days.
  • The role will be supported by full on-site training by our experienced management team.
