This role sits within the Compliance team and supports the Supply Chain & Logistics function in assessing products for trading activity, in line with the key responsibilities outlined below. The role is responsible for driving compliance by engaging stakeholders, translating complex trading regulations into practical guidance, and supporting risk‑based decision‑making in close collaboration with Operations teams (Quality, Logistics, Supply Chain) and the Commercial organisation. It also serves as a subject matter expert and key liaison on all matters relating to trade compliance. In addition, the role drives continuous improvement within its area of responsibility through active monitoring of regulatory changes, revision of SOPs and systems of work, and the delivery of training to relevant internal stakeholders.

The Supply Chain Compliance Officer will advise and support our Product Managers and Operations teams to establish a trading compliance framework through the control of commodity codes, tariffs, certificates and licenses:

  • Identify commodity codes & measuring codes for all new product approvals and set up in our ERP system (FBSS). This includes submission for external validation of HS codes where legal position may be required (BTI / ATR) if required.
  • Monitor the introduction of new HS code sub-category and periodically re‑assess portfolio classification as required.
  • Identify appropriate tariff rules based on commodity codes and markets for all new product approvals.
  • Verify and document country of origin classification and associated duty controls in the markets we operate.
  • Identify and support obtention of permits, certificates and licenses required for imports and transfers of our products.
  • Perform active surveillance of suspensions of product licenses and quotas in the UK/EU.
  • Work with internal and external stakeholders to maintain visibility of current and future regulation changes.
  • Assess potential business impacts & communicate updates to internal & external stakeholders.
  • Monitor any changes to tariffs, anti‑dumping duties, quotas, permits, etc. and support the business to adapt to those changes.
  • Verify the presence of our products under restricted items listings (Security Trade Compliance controls).
  • Develop procedures and work instructions with supply chain, logistics and quality teams to ensure they can execute appropriate checks in their day‑to‑day activities.
  • Develop and roll out appropriate training across the organisation as needed.
  • Drive knowledge sharing on all compliance topics, collaborating with US, China and NAGASE team as needed.
  • Support internal and external compliance processes and audits.
  • Develop improvement plans to address gaps identified during audits and verification processes.
  • Support other members of staff on an ad‑hoc basis when difficult cases with customs clearance/port health arise.
  • Help ensure that our imports and transfers comply with customs regulations.
  • Reply to internal and external queries about classification of goods and other supply chain controls.
  • Support operational projects to deliver compliance for the business on supply chain matters.
  • Maintain an active network of external support, through our import and export partners.

Minimum 5 years’ experience in a similar role, preferably within the food, feed, or personal care sector. Strong knowledge of commodity codes, tariff codes and import and export requirements for products, preferably from within the food, feed, or personal care sector. Understanding of dangerous goods classification and handling (by air, by road and sea) would be an advantage. Strong understanding of Customs procedures, excise regulations and global trade compliance. Ability to interpret complex regulatory requirements into operational processes. Pre‑emptive approach to compliance, continuous improvement and issue resolution. Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, Teams). Ability to provide guidance and training to non‑expert stakeholders – ability to translate complex regulatory requirements into plain English tasks. Strong interpersonal skills, build trusted relationships quickly. Strong organisational skills and time management skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities, meet deadlines and support operational demands. Proactive, detail‑oriented, and confident working independently or in cross‑functional teams. Excellent communication skills with the ability to liaise with internal and external stakeholders.
