The BMS Application Engineer role is a Technical role focused on designing, configuring and supporting systems that control and monitor building operations like HVAC, lighting and energy usage. Lead by example, promote the highest of standards with regards to HSEQ best practice, ensuring compliance with company standards, policies, ISO accreditations and legislative requirements in all instances.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain relationships with customers, suppliers and vendors.
  • Integrate systems using protocols such as BACnet, Modbus, or KNX.
  • Design and configure BMS software for buildings (offices, labs, data centres).
  • Perform graphic and supervisor set‑ups, adjustments and point commissioning.
  • Drive standardisation throughout the organisation, ensuring project documentation is consistent.
  • Engage with supply chain and subcontract organisations.
  • Optimize energy efficiency and ensure systems meet regulations.
  • Undertake risk reviews.
  • Programme control strategies for HVAC systems (heating, ventilation, air conditioning).
  • Maintain relevant certifications and licences.
  • Edit and enhance graphics, illustrations, and layouts to improve clarity and visual appeal.

Qualifications

  • 3 years of project engineer experience in the construction industry, with experience in BMS and control systems.
  • Software experience with Distech, Niagara and Trend.
  • Good verbal and written skills, ability to communicate technical information to a non‑technical audience.
  • Proficient in Microsoft programmes including Excel, Word and Project.
  • Experience working on large projects (£1‑£3M in value).
  • Ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines.
  • Problem‑solving skills, diagnosing faults in live building systems.
  • Experience managing H&S in a construction environment.
  • Valid Safe pass site card.
  • Experience working within datacentres / critical infrastructure environments.
  • Knowledge of Metasys, Tridium, Trend or any OEM BMS platform.
  • First Aid and SMSTS / SSSTS certification.
  • Knowledge of necessary contractual procedures and requirements (e.g., the Construction Act).
