About the role:
The role of a Senior Quantity Surveyor at Group Metropolitan Ltd holds significant importance and comes with a well-defined set of duties aimed at ensuring the projects are completed on time, within budget and to a high standard of quality. The role will require close collaboration with numerous stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle, including but not limited to the following: designers both internal and external, architects, GML estimating department, key account leads, project operational teams both in house and client side, sub-contractors, manufacturers and specialist suppliers, client agents, commissioning teams and high-profile customers. The candidate will be a key contributor from conception, through the design stages, managing all commercial aspects relating to delivery and ensuring that each project is successfully handed over and closed out in a professional manner to the highest of standards.

Generally, the above hours will be flexible in line with the needs of the business. We operate a fair working policy but if any extended overtime is worked by agreement of your line manager, then overtime payment will be applicable.
Roles & Responsibilities
- Manage all commercial aspects of a project, ensuring risks are mitigated, profits are maximised and deadlines are met.
- Review and negotiate contract terms, both upstream and downstream, to ensure GML’s interests are protected.
- Fully understand client requirements, technical specifications, drawings and project requirements.
- Review and query subcontractor submissions.
- Chair meetings, drive outcomes, ensure the production of accurate records of discussions, actions and deadlines.
- Liaise with designers, estimating and operational teams.
- Understand design and project risks, identifying, managing and escalating risks where necessary.
- Drive project programme, ensuring key milestones are maintained. Ability to foresee potential points of failure and react accordingly.
- Prepare and present regular commercial reports including Cost Reports, Variation Logs and Cashflow Forecasts.
- Price, submit and substantiate variations.
- Manage subcontractor accounts.
- Ensure adherence to contractual obligations, highlighting risks and liaising with other internal stakeholders where necessary.
- Build and maintain good relationships with the client, suppliers and design consultants. Possess the ability to be assertive where required.
- Willingness to learn and adapt to new ways of working.
Requirements
- Experience managing multi-million pound projects from conception to final account agreement.
- Strong understanding of M&E installations.
- Good knowledge of standard form contracts (particularly JCT).
- Experience drafting and submitting contractual documentation (Notice of Delay, EoT).
- Knowledge of RIBA stages and requirements.
- Professional demeanour, client facing and with a keen focus on customer care in all instances.
- Ability to remain calm and solve problems under pressure.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Confident, effective communicator.
- Able to make sound decisions while assessing potential impacts to multiple entities both up and downstream.
- Ability to prioritise tasks when working to strict deadlines across multiple projects.
- Strong negotiation skills.
- A UK Driving Licence.
