Trusted implicitly by the UK’s most critical organisations—including the Ministry of Defence, major transport logistics hubs, and national emergency services—our award-winning approach is defined by engineering precision, operational agility, and unmatched 24/7/365 responsiveness.
We are currently seeking a highly skilled, safety-driven CompEx Ex01-Ex04 Electrician to lead the installation, forensic inspection, and continuous maintenance of critical electrical equipment in potentially explosive atmospheres across our diverse, high-stakes Scottish portfolio. Operating with a high degree of autonomy and as a critical leader within a multi-disciplinary team, you will serve as the definitive technical authority on site for all hazardous area compliance. Your daily remit will be highly varied, intellectually challenging, and absolutely critical to the operational continuity of our high-profile clientele.
Responsibilities

- DSEAR Compliance: Conduct comprehensive DSEAR inspections, taking profound responsibility for the production of meticulous red-line marked as-built documentation and legally binding test records to preserve the site's safety case.
- Technical Forensics: Perform advanced fault finding, forensic investigation, and rapid repair on complex control systems, fuel management telemetry systems, and a wide array of Ex-certified apparatus (including Ex 'd' flameproof, Ex 'e' increased safety, and Ex 'i' intrinsically safe loops).
- Safe Systems of Work: Safely execute high-stakes electrical isolations, manage stringent Permit to Work systems, and generate highly detailed, site-specific Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS) prior to any operational commencement.
- Infrastructure Integration: Carry out control panel manufacture and modification, fluently interpreting, updating, and calibrating complex electrical schematics and site drawings.
- Site Leadership: Act as a decisive leader on site, communicating effectively with site management and client representatives, delegating tasks safely to supporting trades, and highlighting any health and safety anomalies with immediate, uncompromising authority.
We are actively looking for a seasoned professional who views electrical safety not merely as a compliance checklist, but as a core, non-negotiable engineering philosophy.
Qualifications
- Essential Certification: An active, valid CompEx Ex01-Ex04 Certificate of Core Competence is strictly required.
- Core Qualifications: Time-served SJIB/JIB Approved Electrician or Technician status, possessing an NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Electrotechnical Services, alongside the 18th Edition Wiring Regulations (BS7671).
- Demonstrable Experience: Proven, extensive industrial experience working within the fuel distribution, utility, petrochemical, or defence sectors with a deep, practical understanding of ATEX directives and thermodynamic fault conditions.
- The "Brilliant Attitude": A pragmatic, highly flexible approach with the ability to adapt instantly to diverse customer needs. You must possess excellent problem-solving capabilities, high stress resilience, and a collaborative team spirit.
- Mobility: A full, clean UK Driving Licence is absolutely essential due to the continuous field-based nature of the role across Scotland.
