Groundwork London

Are you passionate about health and making a difference to local communities? Groundwork London is seeking a Coordinator to shape and deliver the next phase of Barnet Health Champions.

Since 2019, Groundwork London has delivered the Barnet Health Champions project, in partnership with Barnet Public Health. Set up as a direct response to the COVID‑19 pandemic and now focusing on wider health priorities, the project has built a communication system that enables people to help their families, friends and community members to understand key health messaging and increase awareness of local services.

In 2026, the project will transition into a new phase, focusing on supporting communities adversely affected by rising levels of fuel poverty and health inequalities in the borough, including properties in the west of the borough; disabled people or residents living with long‑term health conditions; African, Asian and Caribbean people; older adults; lone parents; low‑income households and refugee/migrant residents.

Working alongside the Groundwork Green Doctor service, Inclusion Barnet and other delivery partners, our team of recruited Healthy Homes Champions (volunteers) will provide a holistic package of health support and energy efficiency guidance to Barnet residents. Champions will receive specialist training and will have access to a wide range of digital and printed assets on up‑to‑date health, wellbeing and energy efficiency information to share with communities. They will disseminate information through their local networks (digitally and in person) and attend community events alongside Groundwork.

Role Summary

The Barnet Health Champions Coordinator will be responsible for the planning, coordination, delivery and evaluation of the project.

Primary Duties

  • Recruit, induct, train and continually coordinate Healthy Homes Champions.
  • Work with partners to identify training and asset production in priority health topics impacted by fuel poverty and cold homes.
  • Plan and facilitate online and face‑to‑face information workshops, inductions, network meetings and focus groups with Healthy Homes Champions.
  • Identify and attend targeted events, workshops and networks to engage with Healthy Homes Champions focusing on priority community engagement.

This role offers flexible hours with support for evening workshops. Training in “fuel poverty awareness” and “fuel poverty and health” will be provided.

Key Requirements

  • Connections with, or experience of, working with identified priority Barnet communities – including properties in the west of the borough, disabled people or residents living with long‑term health conditions, African, Asian and Caribbean people, older adults, lone parents, low‑income households and refugee/migrant residents.
  • Excellent communication skills, including digital channels, and online and face‑to‑face event facilitation.
  • Experience working with and coordinating volunteers.
  • Knowledge or willingness to learn about the impact of fuel poverty on physical and mental health.
  • Awareness of health inequalities in Barnet.

Groundwork London works with communities across the capital to transform their lives and the places they live.
