Groundforce Shorco (GFS) are currently looking to add to our technical development team through the appointment of a Senior or Principal Civil / Structural / Mechanical Engineer (or other background provided they have relevant experience in structural design, analysis or materials performance). This is a chance to join a small, collaborative team, supporting the research and delivery of a variety of engineering projects as part of GFS's continued approach to engineering excellence and ensuring GFS remains the market leader in its industry. You will report directly to the Development Manager and take a leading role in the day‐to‐day operation of the team and department.
You will also contribute to the supervision, training and mentoring of other engineers. This is a small team with a wide project agenda including new product design, improvements on existing products to align with industry standards and/or expand the scope of application. The team is also responsible for creating and maintaining an up‐to‐date library of drawings and calculations of all our construction products and for producing technical information for other teams. We encourage collaborative working by having brainstorming meetings at least once a month or more frequently where we share good practices and ideas on how we can improve our internal procedures and become more efficient.
Key Responsibilities- Carrying out and/or checking of structural calculations for new bespoke and fleet products in accordance with BS5950, EN1993 and EN1999.
- Producing fabrication drawings.
- Overview using Autodesk AutoCAD & Inventor.
- Supporting our temporary bridging team by checking designs in a timely manner in accordance with approved codes of practice, including structural verification of the bridge based on the applied traffic loading and 2‐D drawings produced using AutoCAD.
- Liaising with and assisting the Core Shoring and Major Projects teams when needed, to support with their engineering requirements, including carrying out CAT2 checks on both geotechnical and structural designs.
- Liaising with and visiting our fabricators, operation teams and asset managers to oversee product manufacture.
- Helping to support the production of new tools and software for the technical team to drive efficiencies and save time.
- Maintaining and updating GFS's calculation and drawing library.
- Undertaking market research and identifying gaps where engineering development may increase GFS's competitiveness.
- You will have a minimum of 3 years post‐graduate experience (Senior Engineer), 5 years post‐graduate experience (Principal Engineer) and ideally this will have been in a temporary works environment.
- You will have graduated with a minimum of a 2:1 degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (BSc, BEng or MEng).
- Be working toward, or have CEng or IEng status (MICE).
- Structural and stress mechanics (Required).
- EN1993 (Required).
- Geotechnics, including Rankine's Theory (Desirable).
- Retaining wall design (Desirable).
- Tekla Tedds and/or Structural Designer (Desirable).
- Autodesk Nastran stress analysis software (Desirable).
