Due to continued growth, Ground Consultants Limited (GCL) are looking to recruit a Field Technician to assist our geologists and engineers with a range of ground investigation fieldwork duties. Ground Consultants Limited undertake ground investigations across Cornwall, Devon and the wider South West, with occasional work further afield. Our investigations typically involve trial pitting, borehole drilling and a variety of in‑situ geotechnical and environmental tests.
This role would suit a practical, hardworking individual who enjoys working outdoors and has a hands‑on approach to problem solving. The position is offered on a part‑time basis (typically 2–3 days per week), although this can be flexible depending on the candidate.
Typical duties may include:
- Assisting with hand‑dug trial pits and other site investigation works
- Carrying out in‑situ geotechnical testing (e.g. Dynamic Cone Penetrometer tests and Plate Bearing Tests)
- Attending sites across the South West to download groundwater monitoring data from boreholes
- Assisting with sample handling and equipment management
- Basic vehicle and equipment maintenance
- General support to the field investigation team
No previous experience is required, as full training will be provided. However, we are ideally looking for someone with the following attributes:
- Practical, hands‑on mindset
- Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions
- Good problem‑solving skills and a proactive attitude
- Basic IT literacy (e.g. Microsoft Word and general computer use)
- Previous experience in construction, groundworks, or other practical roles would be advantageous but is not essential
A full driving licence is essential. Ground Consultants Limited is a small, family‑run consultancy based in Wadebridge, Cornwall, with a friendly team of six staff. The successful candidate will have their own desk at our office and will be provided with a laptop, mobile phone and all necessary PPE.
