The Context

Our client is an Exeter-based business currently navigating an exciting period of transformation. Under a fresh leadership team with a clear mandate for growth, they are building a culture rooted in open dialogue, trust, and a genuine desire to do things well. They aren't looking for a "cog in a machine." They are looking for a technically capable, grounded, and commercially aware IT Generalist to become the internal architect of their digital future.

The Challenge

The current IT landscape is messy. Systems are aging, overlapping, and not yet optimized. There is a significant backlog of projects waiting for an owner. For the right person, this is a target-rich environment where your impact will be visible, measurable, and highly valued from day one.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Own the Ecosystem: Act as the internal expert for core platforms (Orderwise, HubSpot, Simpro, 3CX, Mailchimp, and Sage), optimizing and connecting them.
  • Web Management: Support and amend the Orderwise-based website to meet evolving business needs.
  • Audit & Strategy: Map the entire IT estate, identifying risks and redundancies, and building a forward-looking roadmap (knowing when to "stick, switch, or build").
  • Data & Insight: Build custom reports across platforms to ensure the leadership team has the data needed for informed decision-making.
  • Innovate with AI: Navigate the world of LLMs and AI agents, identifying where they can add real value and implementing them practically.
  • Write Code: Use your coding skills to automate workflows, manage APIs, and problem-solve across systems.

What We’re Looking For

  • Broad Technical Literacy: You don’t need to be a specialist in everything, but you must be comfortable across systems, code (scripting/automation), and APIs.
  • Problem Solvers: Someone who rolls up their sleeves for both strategic planning and hands-on fixing.
  • Straight Talkers: You must be a reliable sounding board for leadership delivering honest, jargon-free advice, even when it’s tough to hear.
  • Analytical Mindset: The ability to turn "messy data" into clear, actionable insights.

Location: You must be local to Exeter or able to be on-site regularly to truly integrate with the team culture.

Commitment: 2 days a week - flexible over which specific days.

Why Apply?

This isn't a role where you'll be hidden in a back room. You will be a key player in a business that values humor, honesty, and growth. If you are tired of rigid corporate structures and want the autonomy to fix what’s broken and build what’s next, we want to hear from you.

Note: We are looking for someone with curiosity and the confidence to give reliable advice without bluster. If you have the technical foundation and the right attitude, let’s talk.
