My Client, a well established (5 decades), growing family owned business in Plymouth, is looking for a highly competent and experienced Finance Manager to take ownership of the financial operations and manage the team of 3 (AR, AP). This is a superb opportunity for an ambitious Finance Manager who aspires to be a Financial Controller in the future.
Responsibilities include the following:
- Financial Reporting: Lead the month-end close process, ensuring timely and accurate production of monthly financial statements (P&L, balance sheet, cash flow).
- Financial Analysis: Analyze financial performance, identify trends, and provide insightful reports to management.
- Accounting Operations: Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, and other key accounting functions.
- Compliance: Ensure compliance with all applicable accounting standards and regulatory requirements.
- Internal Controls: Maintain and strengthen internal controls to safeguard company assets.
- Process Improvement: Identify opportunities to streamline and improve financial processes.
- Team Management: Manage and mentor a small finance team, providing guidance and support.
- Special Projects: Assist with ad-hoc projects as required, such as budgeting, forecasting, or system implementations.
Candidates that can demonstrate the following attributes are invited to apply:
- Proven Experience: Significant experience (5+ years) as a Finance Manager or in a similar senior finance role in a UK business.
- Technical Expertise: Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting standards, and internal control frameworks.
- Systems Proficiency: Experience with accounting software (e.g. Sage).
- Communication & Leadership: Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
- Problem-Solving: Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Self-Starter: Ability to work independently and manage priorities effectively.
- Right to Work: You must already possess the right to live and work in the UK. Sponsorship is not on offer.
The ability to manage, get the best out of and develop a Team is crucial. The attitude of getting stuck in and going to visit colleagues in other departments to understand why the numbers are what they are rather than just sitting behind a screen analysing them and making assumptions is crucial. This is an office based role, in a business park on the outskirts of Plymouth. Not being fully qualified is NOT a barrier to applying. Being on the pathway to being fully qualified would be expected. CIMA is preferred.
