Purpose of Role
The focus of the role is to assist in the delivery of a programme of public realm improvements and initiatives that add value to the property assets on our London Estate (Mayfair and Belgravia). Underpinning our public realm programme is Grosvenor’s overarching purpose, which is to deliver lasting commercial, social and environmental benefit. We want to be known for making and managing places that inspire community success and lead the way in tackling climate change, as well as being vibrant, exciting and beautiful places to live, work and visit. To that end we set ourselves stretching public realm ambitions to improve the quality of our public spaces.
Key Responsibilities
- Public Realm improvement programme across Mayfair and Belgravia
- Drive forward the Public Spaces Strategy programme as developed with the Head of Public Spaces (These projects will comprise hard and soft landscaping as well as temporary and permanent interventions. Multiple projects will be run concurrently, typically ranging from £.5m - £14m)
- Develop briefs that encapsulate our requirements with panache
- Lead on specific projects and tasks, working closely with the London Estate Asset Managers and other internal teams (Project Managers, Property Relationship Managers, Sustainability Team, Marketing, Retail, Landscape etc)
- Work with our external consultants and advisors to manage the delivery of projects and initiatives
- Achieve approvals including planning permission, highways approvals, licensing
- Manage cost and risk
- Provide performance reporting and post project reviews
Stakeholder engagement and Social Impact
- Support and deliver effective stakeholder and public engagement or consultation to ensure that Public Spaces projects are delivered in line with Grosvenor’s Community Charter, Positive Space, and ultimately support the business’s social impact and sustainability goals
Partnership participation
- Work in partnership with neighbouring landowners, BIDs and Amenity Groups on projects and initiatives that support Grosvenor’s public realm strategy
Environmental Sustainability
- Ensure that all projects exceed GPUK’s 2030/2050 environmental performance targets
- Support Asset Managers to create and execute green infrastructure initiatives for their respective Districts via the Public Spaces Strategy and in line with Districts’ Biodiversity Net Gain targets
Funding and budgets
- Prepare financial appraisals to support internal approval processes and gateways for Public Spaces expenditure
- Work with delivery partners and consultants including the Local Authority to obtain value for money through the projects we fund
- Seek partnership funding from the Local Authority, private sector partners and other sources where possible
Westminster City Council
- Work closely with Westminster City Council officers, Councillors, and their delivery partners to facilitate the progress and timely execution of projects
- Promote a partnership working ethos with the Local Authority
- Working with our lawyers, develop S278 agreements with the Local Authority
Key Requirements
- Public Realm and Placemaking experience: Experience of developing visions and briefs, planning strategy (where relevant), consultation, and directing the project management and delivery, of public realm projects in central London
- Financial appraisal capability: working capability of Yardi preferred
- Understanding the public sector: Demonstrate working knowledge of how local government operates and how to align private and public sector objectives
- Appointing and managing external consultants: The role will utilise external agencies, advisors and consultants to deliver projects and initiatives
- Creative thinking and problem solving: An aptitude for creative problem solving and entrepreneurial thinking in a fast-paced environment, over multiple projects and initiatives
- Clear and positive communicator: with the ability to be flexible but focused, to negotiate with empathy and to communicate across a broad range of professional and community stakeholders
- Political sensitivity and influence: Have a strong aptitude for local politics to be able to work with our local stakeholders and the Council positively
- Personal Qualities: A strong team player is essential with a passion for Grosvenor’s London Estate and making our public spaces ever better. Financially and commercially aware, with a creative flair, and the ability to listen, learn, communicate and influence with diplomacy
- Professional qualification: Affiliation to one of the following professional disciplines: Architect/Landscape Architect/Urban Designer/Surveyor/Town Planner/Urbanism/Landscape Management/Civil Engineer/Highway Engineer; RIBA, MRICS, MRTPI, MICE, CMLI or MCIHT membership is desirable
