The New Product Development Manager plays a pivotal role in delivering new product projects from concept through to successful market launch. This position ensures all New Product Development activity aligns with business objectives, quality standards, cost targets, and delivery timelines.
Acting as the central link between technical development, production, marketing, and commercial teams, the NPD Team Leader drives the delivery of innovative, profitable, and consumer-led products while building a high-performing team.
Key Responsibilities- Oversee day-to-day NPD operations, ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to agreed quality standards.
- Coordinate cross-functionally with R&D, Production, Procurement, Marketing, Quality and Commercial teams.
- Translate consumer insight and market research into clear, actionable product concepts.
- Review and approve formulations, prototypes, and technical specifications.
- Manage project timelines, resources, and stage-gate documentation.
- Conduct feasibility studies, cost analysis, and risk assessments for proposed developments.
- Ensure all new products meet internal quality standards and external regulatory, safety and compliance requirements.
- Support scale-up, factory trials and production launches to ensure smooth transition into manufacture.
- Drive continuous improvement across NPD processes to improve efficiency and product success rates.
- Provide leadership, direction and accountability for the NPD team.
- Motivate, coach and develop team members, fostering a culture of innovation, ownership and high performance.
- Organise daily workloads, priorities and resource allocation.
- Provide performance data and reporting to the Commercial Manager.
- Build strong internal relationships to support effective collaboration and delivery.
- Proven experience leading New Product Development projects from concept to launch.
- Strong people leadership skills with experience managing and developing technical or NPD teams.
- Commercially minded with experience managing cost targets, timelines and project budgets.
- Confident working cross-functionally in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
- Highly organised with strong project management and problem-solving skills.
