Our established client is seeking an experienced Purchasing and Scheduling Manager to take ownership of purchasing operations, inventory control, and production scheduling within a manufacturing environment. This role is critical to ensuring materials are available to support production through effective supplier management, stock control, and scheduling processes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Place routine purchase orders driven by demand, utilising:
    • Approximately 95% Kanban-based purchasing
    • Approximately 5% MRP scheduling for long lead-time items
  • Maintain and manage the Kanban system, including stock levels and controls.
  • Issue weekly rollover schedules to suppliers.
  • Chase overdue orders and resolve shortages with suppliers.
  • Generate weekly shortage reports using the MRP system and Stores shortage board.
  • Resource new products or alternative components in collaboration with the Technical Department.
  • Take full responsibility for inventory control and stock accuracy.
  • Maintain inventory records, stock codes, and re-order levels.
  • Own and manage year-end stock take procedures.
  • Manage Stores personnel and take ownership of the Stores environment.
  • Support risk assessments and assist with COSHH documentation in conjunction with the Production Manager.

Skills & Experience

  • Proven experience in a similar purchasing, buying, or scheduling role within a manufacturing environment.
  • Demonstrated track record in inventory control and supplier management.
  • Strong working knowledge of Kanban systems and MRP scheduling.
  • Experience managing stock takes and cyclic counting procedures.
  • Strong organisational skills with excellent attention to detail.
  • Comfortable managing people and taking ownership of operational areas.
