Technical Sales Engineer in Inverness

Inverness Full-Time No working from home possible
G

Location: Inverness
Contract: Full time, permanent
Hours: Monday to Friday
Sector: Engineering, Aquaculture, Sales

GroAqua helps fish farmers grow healthy fish, on sea sites and on land. We design and supply the systems that keep a modern farm running: feed barges, feeders and cameras, oxygen generation and water treatment, fish handling, and the digital monitoring that ties it all together. From offices in Inverness, Fort William and Stornoway, as well as Norway and the Faroe Islands, we work with the biggest names in aquaculture.

The role

When a customer asks us whether something can be done, this is the person who works out the answer.

You will take an enquiry from our Sales Team, select the equipment, design the system with our manufacturing partners, cost it, and set out clearly what we are supplying and what the customer is responsible for. You will then produce the drawings, schedules and scope documents the project is built from.

It is a desk-based engineering job. The quotations you price are the ones we live with, so the work needs to be right and it needs to be written down properly. You will deal directly with customers and suppliers on technical questions, and you will see your designs installed on working farms.

No two enquiries are the same. One week it is oxygenation for a freshwater site, the next it is water treatment for a hatchery or a fish handling system for a wellboat.

What you will be doing

  • Advise the Sales Team on equipment selection.
  • Design the solution, using our equipment range and standard installation methods.
  • Price it, as a budget figure early on and as a detailed costing later.
  • Draw it up: technical drawings, P&IDs, calculations and the supporting design documentation.
  • Define the scope of works and the interfaces between GroAqua and the customer, and document both clearly.
  • Go out to suppliers for materials and equipment, and compare what comes back.
  • Pull together the project documentation: scope, drawings, schedules, budgets, material take-offs and supplier quotes.
  • Answer technical questions from customers, suppliers and colleagues.
  • Keep a record of the calculations, costings and design behind every project.
  • Suggest and make improvements to how we design, cost and document projects.

Requirements

What you will need

  • An organised, methodical approach to engineering documentation.
  • Commercial awareness, and an understanding of where the risk sits in a project.
  • A technical, problem-solving mindset and an eye for detail.
  • The ability to pick up new products and systems quickly.
  • Clear written and spoken communication. You will be writing documents customers make decisions on.
  • A qualification in an engineering discipline (degree, HNC, HND or equivalent), or the equivalent gained through experience.

What would help

  • Experience in aquaculture.
  • Hands-on mechanical or electrical work.
  • The ability to read engineering drawings and P&IDs.
  • Drawing or CAD software.
  • Experience putting together material take-offs, budgets and supplier quotations.

What we offer

  • An excellent remuneration package is available to the successful applicant.
  • Flexible working.
  • Private Health Insurance and other benefits.
  • A permanent, full time position with a settled but growing team.
  • Work that reaches every part of the UK aquaculture industry and a good deal of it overseas.
