Our client is a leading civil law Barristers’ Chambers specialising in high-profile medical, police, professional discipline, regulatory, business & specialist crime and public law cases, often involving important legal, ethical and social issues. Chambers has 81 barristers and 26 members of staff. Since 2014, Chambers has expanded its silk team from 9 to 28 KCs, recruited 45 new tenants and won 55 awards.

Barristers and staff adopt a professional, progressive and friendly approach. It was one of the first sets to be awarded the Bar Council’s Certificate for Excellence in Well-Being. Members here work on real issues, affecting real people in the most fundamental of ways, meaning there is never a dull moment. Members of its award-winning staff team play a vital part in the success of the set and Chambers is seeking bright, highly motivated individuals to join as a Junior Assistant/Clerk. Chambers has an excellent record of developing its staff and promoting from within.

The role:

  • Diary administration including entering papers and appointments
  • Printing, scanning, copying and collating material received electronically
  • Collection and distribution of post and monitoring the clerks’ email inbox
  • Fielding calls and dealing with or directing them as necessary
  • Managing conference arrangements including assisting with catering and video
  • Lodging skeleton arguments, authorities and attending fixing appointments at court
  • Liaising directly with barristers and staff colleagues to ensure they are properly supported
  • Assisting with practice management and development for junior barristers
  • Attendance at Chambers’ promotional functions
  • Ad-hoc project work and other administrative tasks as required

A successful candidate is likely to have strong communication and organisational skills and:

  • A willingness to learn and an excellent manner with colleagues, clients and contacts
  • A calm and cheerful approach, even under pressure and an ability to adapt and prioritise competing demands in a busy and changing workload
  • An attention to detail and the ability to process data accurately
  • Integrity, with an absolute commitment to confidentiality
  • A good understanding of equality and diversity principles
  • The ability to work with multiple stakeholders
  • Experience of Microsoft Office/LEX/MLC - training provided

Successful applicants are likely to have been educated at degree-level, but Chambers will also consider candidates who can demonstrate at interview that they have the necessary skills and approach to make a success of the role. Knowledge or experience of the legal profession would be helpful but is not a pre-requisite.
