Saturdays only, free‑lance, 6 month project with potential to extend, £18 p hr, 5hr sessions, based at The Farmer's Arms LA12 8DT, immediate start date.
We are looking for an experienced Youth Worker to support and work alongside our fantastic ‘CafeTeen’ staff at The Farmer's Arms – a team of 13‑16 year olds running a Saturday café. The Youth Worker will work with kitchen staff dedicated to supporting the young people’s kitchen activity and will receive guidance and support from GA Director Adam Sutherland. Cafe Teen, launched in summer 2025, is a hybrid youth arts / hospitality project supported by private philanthropy. Local young people (currently 6 participants, up to 8 max.) split their time between creative projects that support the café (ceramics, graphics, social media) and kitchen and customer service, and receive a wage for their attendance. The project includes on‑site workshop access, outdoor space and digital facilities.
Responsibilities
- Assist and supervise the 13‑16 year old staff in the Saturday café.
- Support kitchen activities, including food preparation, service and hygiene.
- Facilitate arts and crafts projects and help with social media content creation.
- Collaborate with staff to identify and achieve community engagement targets and a profit‑sharing scheme.
- Ensure a safe environment for young people, adhering to safeguarding procedures.
Qualifications
- Energetic, warm, adaptable and creative.
- Minimum 2 years experience in a comparable youth support role, including voluntary or paid positions.
- Training or qualifications are advantageous but not required.
- Experience of or interest in branding and marketing – a distinct advantage for helping the project attract customers and meet targets.
- Interest in and respect for arts and crafts and cookery.
- Strong grasp of safeguarding procedures and a commitment to putting young people’s safety first.
- An Enhanced DBS check will be required.
