Role Purpose
The Head of Group Engineering is responsible for leading and overseeing all engineering functions across the group, ensuring the development and delivery of high‑quality, innovative products that meet customer requirements and support business growth.
This role ensures alignment between Engineering, Operations, Sales, and Quality teams to deliver projects on time, within budget, and to specification, while driving continuous improvement and technical excellence across the group.
Key Responsibilities
- Engineering Leadership
- Lead and manage the engineering teams across all divisions, including design, development, R&D, and technical support.
- Oversee product development lifecycle from concept through to delivery, ensuring compliance with technical specifications and industry standards.
- Drive innovation and the development of new products and solutions to maintain competitive advantage.
- Establish engineering KPIs and monitor team performance to ensure objectives are met.
- Technical Excellence & Quality
- Ensure all engineering outputs comply with relevant regulatory, quality, and safety standards.
- Work closely with Quality teams to embed best practices in design verification, testing, and product validation.
- Implement robust engineering processes, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and documentation across the group.
- Project & Resource Management
- Oversee the planning and allocation of engineering resources to ensure efficient delivery of projects.
- Collaborate with Operations and Production to ensure smooth handover from engineering to manufacturing.
- Support budgeting, cost control, and capital expenditure planning for engineering initiatives.
- Leadership & Team Development
- Lead, motivate, and develop engineering teams, promoting a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
- Conduct performance reviews, mentoring, and succession planning to build a high‑performing technical team.
- Support recruitment, onboarding, and professional development of key engineering personnel.
- Strategic & Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Collaborate closely with Sales and Marketing to understand customer requirements and support technical proposals.
- Partner with Operations to ensure engineering outputs are production‑ready and meet delivery schedules.
- Work with Finance and senior management to align engineering strategy with business objectives and growth plans.
- Systems & Reporting
- Maintain engineering data, drawings, and documentation to ensure accuracy, traceability, and accessibility.
- Provide regular reports on engineering performance, project progress, and technical risks to the Managing Director or Board.
- Implement engineering software and tools to optimise design, testing, and project management processes.

- Proven experience in engineering leadership within manufacturing, electronics, or industrial engineering environments.
- Strong understanding of product development, R&D, design, and engineering processes.
- Experience managing multi‑disciplinary engineering teams and cross‑functional projects.
