A bit about us.

Grind is a coffee company that lives in London. Since opening Shoreditch Grind in 2011, we\’ve expanded across London with cafés, coffee trucks and a state-of-the-art coffee roastery. Today, we serve millions of cups of coffee across London and the UK each year, and we’ve helped hundreds of thousands of people make better, more sustainable coffee at home. You’ll find our coffee beans, compostable coffee pods and ready-to-drink coffee cans – in supermarkets across the UK and in hotels around the world.

We’re a dynamic, fast-growing company. From our coffee shop beginnings to the broad coffee business we are today, we’ve driven the growth of Grind through bold new ventures – bringing better, more sustainable coffee to people wherever they drink it. In 2024, we’re bringing Grind to the workplace – with the same quality and attitude that has driven our success online, and on the high street.

We think coffee can be a force for good. Whether it\’s through creating the UK\’s first compostable coffee pods, our plastic-free packaging or carbon-free shipping – we\’re on a mission to be the world\’s most sustainable coffee company.

In 2023, we created our charity, the Better Coffee Foundation, to undo the damage done by the global coffee industry – in our first year, we recovered 43 million pods\’ worth of ocean-bound plastic.

A bit about the role.

In 2024, we\’re excited to launch Grind at Work, creating a brand new division whose focus will be taking our expertly roasted coffee, alongside a new Grind bean to cup coffee machine, into workplaces small, and large across London and the UK.

Undrinkable styrofoam cups of vending machine brown liquid are out, and Grind flat white – served from some of the world’s best automated coffee equipment, with specialty coffee roasted in London, and by Grind – are in!

Because of this expansion, we are looking for a Technical Development Lead to spearhead the machine development, help shape and launch the Grind at Work platform, and be a part of our next game changing coffee endeavour – making that daily grind a little easier, and a lot more tasty.

Role responsibilities.

  • Working with the roastery team you will develop the blueprint for the Grind recipes and drink settings for all automated equipment. In addition you will develop a training and accreditation system so that all the partners we work with are familiar with and can deliver Grind standards.

  • You will help develop and launch all testing protocols for all new equipment.

  • Critically, you’ll help us work out a technical support strategy working with the UK agents and the Grind in-house maintenance team. Naturally this will include all preventative and reactive technical support for the Grind at Work pilot locations, including parts supply and storage.

  • Assisting in the operationalisation of Grind at Work will be critical and you will help deliver the machine installation process, conduct site surveys, write and document all SOP’s, maintenance manuals and update these materials when needed.

  • You will take the day-to-day relationship with all technical partners in the UK, Switzerland and Munich. Building a strong link with these partners will be critical to our long term success

  • You will be passionate about delivering exceptional levels of machine reliability and committed to a process of continuous improvement. You are the catalyst of all technical feedback from the field and operations so it’s important that you are able to:

  • Review and analyse machine data to track trends.

  • Investigate and identify root cause issues , inputting into the design cycle

  • Prepare dashboards to review the machines technical and operational performances.

  • You will be capable of developing all training manuals and materials and happy to deliver to all stakeholders, customers and partners.

  • Work with the Head of Grind at Work to agree and deliver all key priorities, manage timelines and mitigate risks and issues.

  • You’ll have.

  • Proven experience and knowledge of Super Automatic Espresso machines and understanding of electrical and mechanical systems.

  • Experience of offering system support.

  • Experience in being a proactive problem solver.

  • Ability to diagnose faults and get to the bottom of the root cause in an efficient, systematic way.

  • Feeding learnings from tests into the design and development process.

  • Evidence of organising data in a clear, logical way so that it can be utilised to drive effective decision making within Grind and its partners.

  • A high degree of organisational, communication (written and verbal) and administrative skills, with a strong delivery focus.

  • Proactive and innovative with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Curiosity and a process improvement mindset.

  • Strong time management and attention to detail.

  • Bonus if you have…

  • A Level or NVQ Level 3 Equivalent.

  • Experience of using telematics systems

  • Diversity and Inclusion.
