Associate Artist – Freelance role

Grimm & Co is a Yorkshire charity, based in Rotherham, that supports children and young people to make meaning of the world around them and build a positive narrative for themselves through the joyful discovery of stories. Our Emporium of Stories is a storytelling destination with a Book Nook, Apothecary to the Magical shop, Feastery cafe (serving story-themed food and drink) and secret doors that hide beanstalks and writing/theatre spaces, where imagination is ignited for children and young people to bring stories to life.

Role and responsibilities

Associate Artists play a key role in delivering arts-based, creative sessions to children and young people on-site at Grimm & Co, in schools and around Yorkshire, and in the form of festivals and outreach events. We are looking for creative practitioners based in the north of England, whose breadth of expertise contributes to programme delivery and enhances the work we do. We welcome both established and emerging artists and provide a programme of training and support to all successful applicants.

  • Deliver arts-based, creative sessions with children and young people on-site, in schools, at festivals and through outreach events.
  • Contribute to the development and delivery of Grimm & Co’s programme.
  • Collaborate with artists across a range of disciplines (music, theatre, writing, illustration, film, design, etc.).

Grimm & Co works with dozens of artists across many fields. We welcome applications from a range of disciplines, including:

  • Musicians/Songwriters
  • Comic artists / graphic novelists
  • Games design (digital and physical)
  • Storytelling
  • Any other form of writing or literature

Terms and conditions

This is a freelance role; work is not guaranteed. If you are successful, Grimm & Co will contact you when there is work specific to your expertise and offer you a project as an Associate Artist. You are under no obligation to accept if it doesn’t suit your other working patterns.

Pay rates

  • Half day fee (4hrs) = £125
  • Full day fee (8+hrs) = £250

Based: Mostly in Rotherham but could be anywhere in Yorkshire.
