Principal Accountability
The successful candidate will work closely with project teams, supply chain partners, and management to ensure compliance with legislation, company standards, and best practice while actively promoting continual improvement.
- Detailed Responsibilities Health & Safety
- Provide visible, proactive SHEQ leadership across live civil engineering sites
- Support the implementation of the company's Health & Safety Management System
- Carry out site inspections, audits, and behavioural safety observations
- Assist in developing and reviewing risk assessments, method statements (RAMS) and safe systems of work
- Support incident investigations, including near misses, with a focus on root cause and prevention
- Promote a strong just culture and encourage workforce engagement in safety
- Environmental
- Support compliance with environmental legislation and project-specific environmental plans
- Assist in monitoring and reducing environmental impact (waste, emissions, pollution prevention)
- Carry out environmental inspections and support corrective actions
- Promote sustainable construction practices and environmental awareness on site
- Quality
- Assist project teams in ensuring works are delivered to specification and client standards
- Support audits and continuous improvement initiatives within the Quality Management System
- Support the implementation of quality plans
- Assurance & Compliance
- Maintain accurate SHEQ records and reporting
- Support internal and external audits (e. g., ISO 9001, 14001, 45001)
- Monitor compliance with UK legislation and company procedures
- Act as a trusted advisor, providing clear, practical advice to management and site teams
- Training & Engagement
- Deliver SHEQ briefings, toolbox talks, and awareness training
- Support induction processes for employees and subcontractors
- Represent the business with respect to external organisations as required.

- Required experience, knowledge, qualifications, and training Essential
- Experience in a SHEQ or health & safety roles within civil engineering or construction sectors
- Sound knowledge of UK Health & Safety legislation and CDM Regulations
- NEBOSH General or Construction Certificate (or equivalent)
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently and influence at all levels
- Proactive, solution-focused approach to risk management
- Full UK driving licence

- Membership of IOSH (Tech IOSH / Cert IOSH or working towards)
- Experience working on infrastructure, highways, utilities, or major civil projects
