Help us make a difference as an Environmental & Gas Operative. A quick look at the role: To undertake environmental monitoring of various landfill sites, data interpretation and reporting in accordance with the site permit as well as gas field balancing, maintenance and gas compound management. This role can be home based with frequent travel to our sites; a vehicle and fuel card is provided along with IT equipment.

Your core responsibilities:

  • Undertake environmental monitoring, data interpretation and reporting in accordance with the site permit and Biffa instructions.
  • Undertake gas field monitoring, balancing and maintenance.
  • Manage the landfill gas compound to ensure that power generation is maximised.
  • Undertake all duties in accordance with Health and Safety policies, guidance notes and training.
  • Work closely with and collaborate with landfill operational colleagues.
  • Supervise and manage contractors that work on specific areas relating to this role.
  • Collect, understand, collate and prepare data (for generator and environmental performance) as required to monitor the overall business performance, identify areas for improvement and implement these in collaboration with Management.
  • Provide out of hours emergency assistance for gas generation issues.
  • Carry out such reasonable tasks as might be required by the Company from time to time.

Our essential requirements:

  • Basic computer literacy.
  • Able to travel; may be asked to stay away from home on rare occasions.
  • Driving licence - Driving is a large part of the role, you will sometimes be required to drive to more than one site in a day.
  • Happy to lone work – Some of our closed sites are unattended.
  • Expected to work in all weathers – A large part of the role is working outside.
