Overview
Greystone House require a RELIEF COOK for our friendly family ran residential care home.
The successful candidate must be available to provide relief cover for holidays and sickness. The shift pattern may include weekdays and weekends from 9:30am to 5:00pm. Previous experience is essential and the successful candidate must hold or be willing to undertake food safety training. The successful applicant must also undertake a criminal record check, cost met by the home.
Responsibilities
- To provide appetising and attractive hot meals for our 23 residents, to include a hot lunch and dinner according to the weekly menu. The meals provided must take into account the special dietary needs and preferences of our residents. Also to maintain a clean and hygienic kitchen in which meals are prepared and cooked in accordance with relevant policies and procedures.
- To prepare and cook lunch and tea for our residents, providing two alternatives for each meal according to the weekly menu.
- To freshly prepare any baked goods on a daily basis according to the menu.
- To ensure that food preparation for the following day is carried out, i.e. cooking meats etc.
- To be knowledgeable with regard to resident’s special dietary needs and preferences, for example, catering for those with diabetes, for a reducing diet, soft options etc.
- To contribute to menu planning to ensure a varied and nutritious range of options are available.
- To carry out the advice of members of the care team with regard to each resident’s changing dietary needs.
- To present meals in an attractive and appetising manner.
- To assist care staff to serve meals to residents.
- To clean crockery and cutlery after each meal.
- To clean all kitchen equipment, pans, utensils etc after use.
- To maintain a safe, clean and hygienic kitchen by following the weekly cleaning rota.
- To use safe and hygienic methods in all aspects of food preparation, handling, cooking and serving.
- To comply with all paperwork and record-keeping requirements, including temperature logs, food safety checks, and inventory records.
- To monitor stock levels and record items that are out of stock or running low on the shopping list to ensure that all items needed for the weekly menus are available.
- To undertake any necessary training opportunities.
- To comply with the home’s relevant policies and procedures at all times.
- To report to the senior care assistant or the home manager any significant changes in a resident related to their nutritional needs.
- To perform such other duties as may reasonably be required.
