The Legal Counsel, Europe is a junior to mid-level legal role within Greystar Europe’s transaction management team. The successful candidate will take a lead role in the day-to-day European development, asset management and operational legal workstreams.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as a day-to-day legal point of contact for the European business teams, building trusted relationships with internal stakeholders and supporting senior legal colleagues in advising on business objectives and risk management.
- Work on matters relating to both Greystar owned assets (student and multifamily) and third party owned assets where Greystar acts as property manager.
- Provide a key supporting role on European development acquisitions and thereafter working on the lifecycle of the development, including construction works, practical completion, stabilization and lease up, estate management and rectification of defects.
- Review and negotiate real estate contracts including property management agreements, tenancy agreements, propco and opco leases, nomination agreements and development agreements.
- Lead the day-to-day retail leasing strategy across the European business, including advising on head-of-terms and transaction documentation.
- Maintain template documents and legal precedents to ensure they remain fit for purpose. Roll out these templates for other European markets.
- Provide transactional support including maintaining issues lists and data room management.
- Support the team in horizon scanning and ongoing monitoring of regulatory requirements, including in respect of sustainability, health and safety, fire and building safety and assist in the development and implementation of policies and processes to ensure compliance.
- Provide legal support in relation to key capital expenditure works to operational assets, including building safety remediation works.
- Assist with the management of day to day operational matters including queries from on site teams.
- Support the procurement team in reviewing commercial contracts (including IT, marketing and supply agreements), assisting with the identification and negotiation of key legal provisions.
- Work with the data privacy team to ensure appropriate data protection procedures are in place and provisions are included in legal contracts.
- Support the compliance team in monitoring and implementing compliance changes required in the European business.
- Support the team with its AI innovation strategy to improve efficiencies and consistency across European markets.
About You
You’re a qualified solicitor with solid real estate experience, gained in a leading law firm or in-house environment. Commercially minded and detail-focused, you’re confident managing multiple workstreams, advising stakeholders, and delivering high-quality work to tight deadlines. A strong team player with excellent judgement and communication skills, you’re collaborative, hands-on, and comfortable working at pace. Experience in asset management, operations, development, or an in-house setting would be a real advantage.
