Our client is looking for an experienced Housekeeper / PA / Family Assistant to take on a hands-on and varied role looking after a family home in central York. The household consists of one adult and three older children (eldest at university), and they also have a dog who may be present during school holidays. You will be looking after a 5-storey townhouse which is within easy walking distance from the train station and also accessible for someone driving from outside of town (parking available).

Candidates need to be flexible, adaptable and happy to switch between a hands-on Housekeeping role one week, and then a PA / Family Assistant role the next on a rotational basis. You may also be required to help on occasions at a second property in the Lake District. This will be a long-term role for someone who is open to a possible relocation with the family in a year’s time, or a role for someone who is happy to make a commitment for a minimum of one year. This will be a live-out role, so ideally, we are looking for local candidates who are already in the area but we will also consider applications from candidates who will relocate to the area.

Duties will include:

  • Housekeeping week – working at the client’s home near York
  • Hands-on cleaning – all dusting, hoovering, bathroom cleaning and bed changing
  • Laundry, ironing and wardrobe management
  • Running errands and shopping for the household
  • Managing household provisions
  • Basic family meal preparation 2/3 times per week, more during school holidays
  • Driver essential – you may also be required to help with some driving duties including driving members of the family
  • Personal / Family Assistant week – mostly likely working from home
  • Email and diary management
  • Organising and coordinating family appointments and diaries
  • Travel research and bookings management
  • Household management - Monitoring and managing household bills, booking utility services
  • Liaising with trades and contractors
  • Some business-related administration

Previous experience in a similar role is essential as are excellent references and an Enhanced DBS check. Driver essential (car provided for work use). Start ASAP / as soon as the right candidate is found / Early 2026. Salary £40,000 to £45,000 GPA. This will be a live-out role, so ideally, we are looking for local candidates who are already in the area but we will also consider applications from candidates who will relocate to the area (and the client will consider a contribution towards renting accommodation).
