Live-In Nanny / Housekeeper Job in Reading

A lovely family are seeking an experienced, warm and proactive Live-In Nanny / Housekeeper to join their household. In Reading.

The family have two children, aged 6 and 8, as well as a dog. They are looking for someone who is genuinely child-focused, confident taking sole responsibility for the children when required, and who also has strong housekeeping skills and a natural “muck in” attitude.

This is a relaxed family home where flexibility, initiative and a willingness to adapt to the family's needs are highly valued. Additional cleaning support is provided, so the successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing and managing the twice-weekly cleaning service rather than undertaking all of the cleaning themselves.

Duties

Childcare

  • Taking an active role in the day-to-day care and supervision of the two children, aged 6 and 8

  • School drop-offs and collections, as required

  • Helping with homework and supporting the children's daily routines

  • Preparing snacks and meals for the children

  • Occasional sole care of the children, with confidence working independently essential

  • Proxy parenting when the parents are away

  • Supporting with child-related errands, activities and appointments

  • Helping the children stay organised and ensuring their needs are well managed

  • Being a warm, positive and engaging presence in the household

Housekeeping & Household Management

  • Keeping the home tidy, organised and well presented on a day-to-day basis

  • Laundry, ironing and general household organisation

  • Managing guest bedrooms, including changing and maintaining guest linens

  • Ensuring household linens and supplies are well stocked and organised

  • Overseeing the twice-weekly cleaning service, ensuring the house is maintained to a high standard and communicating with cleaners as required

  • Receiving and dealing with parcels and deliveries

  • Occasional oversight of tradespeople and contractors when they are working at the property

  • Online grocery shopping and managing household orders

  • Occasional in-person grocery shopping or collection of additional items

  • General household errands and organisation

Cooking

  • Preparing the family's evening meal on a daily basis

  • Cooking one meal for the whole family, as the family generally eat together

  • Occasional breakfast preparation and other light cooking as required

  • Being comfortable preparing fresh, family-friendly meals

Pets

  • General care of the family dog

  • Daily dog walking and letting the dog out as required

  • Ensuring the dog's needs are incorporated into the family's daily routine

Additional Responsibilities

  • Working closely with the parents and any other household staff as part of a team

  • Being flexible and happy to “muck in” wherever needed

  • Occasional travel may be requested

Working Hours

Around 40 hours per week, generally starting at 8am, with flexibility around the family's schedule. Split shifts may occasionally be required, so flexibility is essential.

The ideal candidate will have strong previous nanny experience, ideally within a private household, and be genuinely child-focused and confident caring for children aged 6 and 8. They will be comfortable with sole care and proxy parenting, as well as supporting with homework and the children's day-to-day routines. A full, clean driving licence is essential, alongside strong housekeeping and household management skills. The family are looking for someone who is committed to a long-term position and would genuinely enjoy becoming part of their household.

Accommodation

The family offer a self-contained two-bedroom apartment above the garage, with its own separate entrance, providing excellent privacy and independence.

The client may consider a partner and/or pet, subject to discussion.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Nanny / Housekeeper who is looking for a long-term role within a lovely family home, with excellent accommodation and a varied position combining childcare, household organisation and family support.
