Part-Time Butler / Housekeeper (3 Days per Week) in Cambridge

Our client is seeking a discreet, proactive, and highly professional Part-Time Butler / Housekeeper to care for their private residence in Cambridge. This role requires three days per week, with flexibility for occasional duties at other properties and limited travel. The ideal candidate will have experience working in private households or luxury hospitality and will take pride in delivering the highest standards of service and presentation.

We are looking for a warm, enthusiastic, and approachable individual with a service-oriented attitude who is trustworthy, discreet, and dependable. This person should be flexible and willing to assist in all areas of household operations, proactive with sound judgment and initiative, and take pride in their work with a meticulous eye for detail. Additionally, we are seeking a reliable team player who can work both independently and collaboratively.

Candidates should have at least three years of experience in a similar role within a private residence, hotel, or hospitality environment, along with excellent housekeeping skills and attention to detail, particularly in laundry and wardrobe management.

Basic computer literacy is required for household administration, along with strong communication skills in English. Applicants must have a valid passport and the right to work in the UK and should reside in or near Cambridge, with flexibility for travel. A pet-friendly attitude is also essential for this role.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure the home is maintained to immaculate standards at all times, including daily cleaning, deep cleaning, and turndown service.
  • Care for fine furnishings, antiques, artwork, silverware, and delicate fabrics (training can be provided where required).
  • Manage household laundry, including pressing, wardrobe organisation, and packing/unpacking for travel.
  • Assist in the smooth running of the household when the Principals are in residence, working closely with other staff members.
  • Oversee household accounts and keep accurate expenditure records for the House Manager.
  • Order provisions for the household, ensuring preferences and quality are consistently met.
  • Liaise with and oversee contractors, tradespeople, and external suppliers.
  • Support with dinners and events, including table setup, service, and clear down.
  • Run errands, shop locally and online, and carry out ad-hoc requests.
  • Provide basic technical support with household audio/visual and IT equipment.
  • Prepare the property ahead of the Principals’ arrival and close down the residence after their departure.
  • Undertake any other reasonable duties to support the household’s smooth running.

This role would particularly suit a semi-retired professional or a freelance Butler/Housekeeper seeking a part-time position within a well-run private household.
