A switched-on and confident housekeeper/cook is required for a large 11-bedroom property near Andoversford in Gloucestershire. This is the full-time residence of a couple who have four grown children who also stay at the property from time to time and sometimes for longer periods. The estate covers 50 acres, and there are other staff members employed, including two additional housekeepers, a driver, and a team of up to 5 gardeners. This is a close-knit, busy household, so being a team player is essential.

The family enjoys entertaining, and you will be required to assist with front-of-house duties informally when they have guests. The household can be either very busy or quiet, so flexibility is key. This is the principal's main residence.

The ideal candidate should enjoy cooking a variety of meals, mainly simple healthy family-style dishes. You should be comfortable preparing meals for up to nine people and up to 3 times per day when guests and principals are in residence; during this time, you would be supported by an additional member of staff when cooking. For larger dinner parties, the principals would hire external caterers.

Duties will include:

  • Hands-on cleaning, laundry and ironing to a high standard
  • Care of delicate items and fine fabrics
  • Silver polishing
  • Family style cooking, confident to cook for up to 9 guests
  • Assisting with dinner parties
  • Packing and unpacking suitcases
  • Front-of-house duties when guests are in residence
  • Pet care (3 dogs & 3 cats)
  • House & pet sitting when the principals are away
  • Shopping for the household
  • Flower arranging skills would be a bonus

The ideal candidates must be hard-working, have exceptional attention to detail, be able to work within a team and use their own initiative when completing tasks. You must be a driver with your own car and be happy to have an enhanced DBS check.

Start date: As soon as the right person is found.

Accommodation: 2 bedroom cottage with separate garden 5 minute walk from the property. All bills included. Pets will be considered; cats would be preferred.

Hours: Hours vary depending on whether the principals are home, approximately 45 hours per week. Some days 9-6, some days split shifts with a break and finishing later in the evening, mostly when guests are in residence.

Days: 5 days a week including weekends with 2 days off in the week, typically Tuesday & Wednesday. When principals and guests are not in residence, Monday - Friday.

Salary: Up to £45,000 GPA
