Greycoat Lumley’s client is seeking a dedicated Gardening Couple for an excellent opportunity to join a beautiful privately owned sporting estate 20 minutes south of Inverness. The couple will report to the Head Gardener who is based at a different location but visits the Scottish estate regularly.
The garden and grounds include:
- walled kitchen garden with a stunning large greenhouse
- herbaceous borders surrounding the main residence
- walled herbaceous flower garden
- a beautiful woodland dell area
- extensive lawns
- a newly built compost bay for making large amounts of organic matter
- a newly re-designed late season herbaceous border
We’re looking for a couple who is enthusiastic, hardworking, uses their own initiative, works well together and apart, and demonstrates some of the below:
- Pedestrian mowing of lawns and extensive large lawns cut with a ride-on mower
- Strimming duties of large main drive as well as other rough grass areas
- Lawn edging where required
- Leaf blowing and collecting through the autumn and winter
- Snow clearing on main drive and around the house
- It would be beneficial for one individual of the couple to have a chainsaw certificate and a PA1 / PA6 certificate; training can be provided if required
- Assist with clearing fallen trees
- The couple must ensure that the gardens look at their best from September onwards for family shoots and Let days
- Must be enthusiastic and have a positive attitude
- Possess good plant knowledge and high horticultural skills and understand the practicalities of producing plants from seed and plugs
- Experience in growing and producing vegetables to a high standard, particularly winter vegetables, for use by the main residence
- Knowledge and experience in producing cut flowers for the main residence
- Carry out herbaceous border division and re-planting on a regular basis
- Ideally have experience in using and maintaining garden machinery, including an Avant Loader, rotary ride-on mower, pedestrian mowers, strimmers and leaf blowers (handheld and backpack)
Working hours:
- Candidate 1 – full time Monday to Friday, weekend watering only
- Candidate 2 – part time, Monday to Thursday, weekend watering only
Accommodation: Live in, 2-3 bed house, with garden and driveway, council tax included.
Salary: £65,000 GPA
