Greycoat Lumley’s client are seeking a kind, capable, and discreet Domestic Couple to support the smooth running of a beautifully restored Private Estate in rural Dumfriesshire. This is a long-term opportunity for a professional Couple who bring warmth, initiative, and pride to their work and who value the rhythm of life in the countryside. You’ll be joining a supportive, established estate team, and caring for a home with beautiful interiors set in a stunning garden. Willingness to work flexible hours is essential as this is a second home and there are consequently periods of intense activity balanced by quieter spells. The household includes three young children, no pets.
Duties Include:
- A Housekeeper
- Cleaning, laundry, ironing, and wardrobe care across main and ancillary properties
- Household inventory and shopping
- Managing household supplies and liaising with estate contractors
- Looking after antiques, fine furnishings, and delicate finishes
- Supporting entertaining and guest arrivals, even when principals are not there
- Light cooking and food prep (healthy, family friendly, mainly vegetarian cuisine)
- Creating a calm, organised, environmentally responsible, and well-run household
- Driving (regular station trips both local and farther afield) and errand support
- A Property Maintenance / Handyperson
- General maintenance and caretaking of all properties inside and out including pressure washing of sandstone terraces and pathways
- Managing tradespeople and overseeing repairs or schedules
- Supporting security and the smooth day-to-day operation of the properties
- Driving and errand support
- Maintenance of a swimming pond and building
- Point of contact for Biomass boiler involving trouble shooting
- Inspection of all estate properties including one a 15 minute drive away
Candidate Qualities
- Previous experience as a Domestic Couple in a private household or estate
- Self-motivated and genuinely happy working together
- A practical, can-do attitude with a respectful, professional approach
- Complete flexibility is essential to work evenings and weekends when required
- Excellent references and the right to work in the UK
- A good understanding of privacy and discretion
- At ease in a rural, countryside setting
- Full UK driving licence
