This role is ideal for individuals who possess a refined background in private service and a comprehensive understanding of how to maintain a traditional, high-end household. The successful candidate will work within a supportive environment, collaborating with an existing team that oversees the interior of the property.

A positive, flexible attitude and the ability to take direction within a structured team are essential, particularly as there are formal elements to this role, including the service of meals and entertaining. This position involves high-level housekeeping, laundry, and culinary support. As the principals occasionally host guests, a flexible approach to working hours and days is necessary to ensure the smooth operation of the household.

Cooking duties are shared with another team member and involve preparing simple British cuisine for lunches, as well as cooking and serving dinner on the alternate housekeeper’s days off. The successful candidate must possess proven experience within a significant private residence and a thorough understanding of the high standards required in a traditional household. It is essential to have a team-oriented mindset, a professional and adaptable approach to daily tasks, and the absolute discretion necessary for such a role. Furthermore, excellent communication skills and fluency in English are required to ensure effective coordination with both the principals and the wider team.

Duties:
  • Housekeeping
  • Laundry, ironing and fabric care
  • Care of traditional fixtures, fine art and antiques
  • Deep cleaning when the principals are not in residence
  • Daily cooking for the two principals (shared role)
  • Serve and assist cooking for formal and informal dinner parties when required
  • Occasional driving duties when required
  • Local errands
  • Security of the property on a rota basis with a member of the external team
  • Private household experience is required

Start date: July 2026

Working week: 5 days a week, typically Monday to Friday but flexibility required

Accommodation: 2-bedroom cottage provided in local town, all utility bills and council tax included. Pets and partners considered.
