When the last guests settle in, the doors quieten down, and the hotel slips into night mode… that’s when your shift begins. At Gretna Green Hotels, our nights matter just as much as our days. We’re looking for a reliable and attentive Night Porter to join our growing team. Someone who can be the calm, friendly face of the hotel overnight, keeping things running smoothly, safely and quietly while the rest of the world sleeps.

You’ll gain valuable hospitality experience and still have your days free. As a Night Porter, you’re responsible for our overnight service, creating a welcoming and secure environment for guests. You’ll be the first point of contact for late arrivals, making sure they feel cared for from the moment they step inside. Your keen eye for detail and proactive nature will help ensure the hotel is pristine, safe, and ready for the day ahead. This role is perfect for someone who enjoys working independently, but still likes being part of a close-knit team.

Main Responsibilities

  • Guest Services & Night-Time Operations
    • Welcome, check in, and assist late-night arrivals with a warm and professional manner.
    • Provide a limited bar service and prepare/deliver room service orders.
    • Assist with basic setup for weddings and events as required.
    • Support the Night Supervisor with guest requests and incident reporting.
  • Safety, Security & Maintenance
    • Conduct regular security, safety, and cleanliness patrols of the hotel.
    • Handle basic maintenance issues or report them promptly to the relevant department.
  • Cleanliness & Presentation
    • Maintain a clean, tidy, and welcoming reception area.
    • Oversee cleaning and deep-cleaning tasks in all public areas.
  • Administrative Duties
    • Assist with nightly audits and preparation of morning reports.
    • Provide a clear and helpful handover to the early morning team.

What we’re looking for

  • Excellent communicator with a friendly, welcoming presence.
  • Ability to work independently and use initiative.
  • Hands-on and willing to help with a variety of practical tasks.
  • A keen eye for detail and pride in maintaining high standards.
  • First Aid and Fire Marshal training is desirable, but training can be provided.
  • Willingness to learn about fire safety, health and safety procedures.
  • Previous experience in a similar role is beneficial, however not essential. We are more interested in your positive attitude, willingness to learn, and dedication to providing outstanding service.
