We are currently looking for a Transport Planner to join our transport team. This role is key to ensuring daily transport operations run smoothly, safely and in line with legal and company requirements. To support the Transport Planning Manager in planning and organising daily transport operations, ensuring all movements are completed on time, safely and in compliance with HGV operator licence requirements, UK road haulage legislation, BRC standards and customer expectations. You will play an important role in keeping daily operations running smoothly.
Main Tasks And Key Responsibilities
- Plan and coordinate daily transport operations to ensure timely deliveries between sites and to customers
- Schedule and manage daily collections and deliveries efficiently
- Monitor transport costs and provide regular reports to the Transport Planning Manager
- Escalate and discuss any operational issues with Transport Managers
- Ensure all transport activities comply with legal requirements and company policies
- Provide administrative and operational support within the transport office
- Assist with planning for peak periods, including seasonal storage and distribution (e.g. Christmas)
- Participate in and attend haulier meetings as required
- Manage PPS stock levels efficiently
- Ensure all movements are processed accurately and within timeframes
- Verify supplier invoices against transport records and resolve any discrepancies
- Maintain accurate records for costing and reporting process
- Provide support to the Transport Compliance Manager during busy periods
- Control inbound logistics and work closely with freight forwarders
- Identify cost-saving opportunities and contribute to efficient, cost-effective transport planning
Transport Operation Overview
- Fleet of 11 vehicles and 21 trailers
- During peak period this increases to approx. 30 vehicles and 60 trailers
- Managing and coordinating subcontracted hauliers
- Daily use of transport systems: FOPS, Orbcomm and other online platforms used for booking and managing transport
Compliance And Safety
- Follow all Health & Safety and food safety requirements at all times
- Report any risks that could impact product safety
- Ensure all operations meet BRC standards and internal procedures
Skills And Experience
- Strong planning and organisational skills
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
- Good understanding of drivers’ hours regulations and transport legislation
- Knowledge of UK road network and delivery restrictions
- Strong communication skills
- Good level of written and spoken English
- Good computer skills, especially Microsoft Excel
- Ability to adapt to changing situations
- Some experience in transport or logistics would be an advantage
HOURS: 06:00 – 14:30 (flexibility required depending on operations)
Peak Period (mid-November To End Of December)
- Up to 10-hour shifts
- Up to 6 days per week
SALARY: £35,000 per year
