Have you ever considered training to be a HGV Driver? Do you already have a provisional HGV Licence or are in the process of applying for one? If "YES" we want to hear from you. DUE TO LICENCING LAWS YOU MUST BE 18 OR OVER TO APPLY FOR THIS VACANCY.

In partnership with SP Training, we are looking to recruit a Trainee Class 1 Tramper Driver. The successful candidate will be onboarded to the national Level 2 Large Goods Vehicle Apprenticeship programme. This structured course will develop candidates with all the skills and knowledge required to thrive within the logistics industry.

As a Trainee Class 1 Driver, you will be supported as you learn the role and gain confidence and competence. Once qualified, your responsibilities will include:

  • Assisting with and completing collections and deliveries across the UK using a curtain‑sided trailer.
  • Learning how to secure loads correctly using ratchet straps, with some manual handling involved, to ensure all loads are safe and compliant.
  • Using a handheld PDA to complete deliveries, paperwork, and checks in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Keeping in regular contact with the transport team, providing updates and asking for support whenever needed.
  • Becoming comfortable with tramping duties, including nights away from home, as part of nationwide deliveries.
  • Taking part in ongoing training and coaching, helping you build skills, confidence, and knowledge of industry standards and best practices.

As well as the internal support through the Gregory Group, SP Training will guide you through the licence acquisition process - covering eLearning and tests for the required Theory, Hazard Perception and Driver CPC. The structured learning programme aims to have candidates licence ready within 3 months, with continued monthly touch point learning to back up competence.

Essential Skills and Qualifications

  • A PROVISIONAL HGV C E LICENCE is required for all candidates to start the programme to become a Trainee HGV Driver. This requires completion of a medical assessment. You can collect the required DVLA D2 & D4 forms at your local Post Office offering DVLA services.
