We are seeking a proactive and hands-on Assistant Hygiene Manager to support the delivery of high hygiene and sanitation standards within a fast-paced food production environment. This role is primarily shop-floor based and requires strong coordination with multiple departments to ensure cleaning processes are carried out effectively, safely, and in line with required procedures. The successful candidate will support the Hygiene Manager in maintaining operational standards, ensuring compliance with hygiene protocols, and driving continuous improvement across the hygiene function.
The Assistant Hygiene Manager will play a key operational role in coordinating daily hygiene activities and supporting the hygiene team to ensure all cleaning tasks are completed to the required standard. Lots of opportunity to progress in this role.
Key responsibilities include:
- Working primarily on the production floor, overseeing and supporting hygiene operations.
- Coordinating cleaning activities across production and supporting departments.
- Ensuring plant machinery is correctly emptied and prepared for cleaning before sanitation procedures begin.
- Monitoring that all cleaning processes are followed correctly and that required documentation (e.g., CIS cards and related records) is completed accurately.
- Supporting the Hygiene Manager with gap analysis, risk assessments, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Collaborating closely with production, engineering, and other operational teams to ensure hygiene activities integrate smoothly with production schedules.
- Leading and coordinating the team on the main weekly cleaning day (Saturday) to ensure all tasks are completed by the end of shift.
- Conducting routine checks across equipment, production areas, and cleaning activities to ensure standards are maintained.
- Training and educating hygiene operatives on the correct cleaning methods, procedures, and product handling requirements.
- Supporting day-to-day team leadership and operational oversight of a hygiene team.

The ideal candidate will be highly organised, hands-on, and comfortable working in a busy production environment.

- Experience within food manufacturing hygiene, sanitation, or production environments.
- Strong understanding of food safety and hygiene standards.
- A hands-on leadership style with the ability to work directly on the shop floor alongside the team.
- Experience coordinating teams and collaborating across departments.
- Ability to identify operational gaps and contribute to risk assessments and process improvements.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to train and guide operatives effectively.
- Comfortable working 6am – 6pm shifts, including coordinating key cleaning operations on Saturdays.
- Detail-oriented with strong organisational and problem-solving skills.
