Transport Compliance Auditor

Job Description: As a result of continued growth, we are seeking an experienced Transport Compliance auditor to conduct regular on-site audits across our nationwide, fast-paced transport and logistics operations. You will be based at our main Cullompton offices and report to the Internal Audit Manager.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conducted on-site audits at nationwide operating centres, focusing on compliance with operator licence obligations and Group transport policies and procedures.
  • Utilised technology to remotely review and analyse fleet operations, tachograph records, reporting systems, and overall compliance performance.
  • Interviewed transport personnel at operating centres to assess their understanding of operator licence requirements and Group transport policies.
  • Performed visual load security checks as part of compliance audits, ensuring adherence to guidance, training, and best practice standards.
  • Held post-audit discussions with senior management to highlight areas for improvement and recommend corrective actions.
  • Produced clear, concise audit reports identifying instances of non-compliance and areas requiring attention.
  • Developed action plans following audits to mitigate risks and ensure ongoing compliance.
  • Managed the implementation of action plans within agreed timeframes through to resolution.
  • Provided support and training to transport teams to enhance understanding and improve compliance with operator obligations.
  • Influenced key stakeholders, including General Managers and Transport Managers, on operator licence requirements, Group policies, and operational practices.
  • Analysed audit findings to identify trends and patterns that inform improvements in Group-wide compliance.
  • Demonstrated flexibility in travelling across Group sites to schedule, plan, and deliver audits in line with the annual audit plan, taking full ownership from planning through to reporting and action planning.
  • Supported the Audit Manager in delivering the Group internal audit plan and in developing and deploying best practices.
  • Identified internal policies and procedures requiring updates to reflect changes in legislative frameworks.
  • Built and maintained positive working relationships with colleagues at all levels, supporting the development of a compliant culture across the Group.

Requirements:

  • Proven experience in an auditing role within distribution and warehousing environments.
  • Strong understanding of DVSA Operator Licence procedures.
  • Holder of a National Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC).
  • Qualified or currently working towards an Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) certification.
  • Proficient in fleet and tachograph management systems.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing and executing audit plans.
  • Highly self-motivated, resilient, and adaptable to change.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex data effectively.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, maintaining accuracy in high-pressure, fast-paced settings.
  • Capable of working independently and collaboratively within a team.
  • Excellent organisational and time management abilities.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively at all levels.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Holder of a valid UK Driving Licence.
