We are looking for a reliable and safety-focused Shunter Driver to support our transport operation in Bridgwater.
The role involves the safe and efficient movement of trailers and tanks around site, helping to ensure smooth day-to-day operations.
In addition to shunting duties, you will be expected to provide cover for the Transport Operator role during periods of holiday, sickness, or increased business demand.
Full training will be provided, and any time spent covering this role will attract an enhancement of pay., Shunter Driver Duties
- Shunter Driver Duties
- Retrieve empty trailers from the trailer park and position them as required.
- Transport loaded and empty tanks between the trailer park and production areas to support operational flow.
- Relocate loaded trailers from loading bays to designated trailer park areas.
- Carry out general yard duties as required to maintain a safe, efficient, and organised site.
- Conduct daily vehicle safety inspections using company systems and mobile devices, ensuring vehicles remain roadworthy and compliant.
- Maintain regular communication with the transport team regarding vehicle movements, operational updates, and any issues that may impact service.
- Adhere to all company health & safety policies, site procedures, and transport compliance requirements.
- Attend mandatory training and development sessions to maintain skills and industry knowledge.
- Support operational teams in achieving customer service and productivity targets.
- Carry out occasional local deliveries and collections as required
Transport Operator Cover Duties When required to provide cover within the Transport Office, responsibilities may include:
- Assisting with the coordination and planning of daily transport activities.
- Supporting the day-to-day running of transport operations, ensuring customer and service requirements are met.
- Liaising with drivers, customers, and internal stakeholders to resolve operational issues.
- Conducting driver briefings and debriefings.
- Monitoring fleet utilisation and supporting effective resource allocation.
- Responding professionally to queries via telephone, email, and face-to-face communication.
- Producing operational reports and assisting with KPI monitoring and performance analysis.
- Supporting transport operations during disruptions, breakdowns, or other service challenges.
- Maintaining transport records and ensuring compliance with company procedures and legal requirements.
- Working collaboratively with the wider transport team to ensure operational continuity.
Qualifications
- Valid UK Class 1 (Category C+E) Driving Licence.
- Current Driver CPC qualification.
- Digital Tachograph Driver Card.
- Strong understanding of transport safety and compliance requirements.
- Excellent communication and organisational skills.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet deadlines.
- Confident, professional, and customer-focused approach.
- Good geographical knowledge.
- Flexible, adaptable, and willing to support operational requirements across different functions.
- Competent IT skills with the ability to learn and use transport management systems.
- Team player with a proactive and positive attitude.

- Previous shunting experience within a transport or logistics environment.
- Experience within a transport planning or transport administration role.
- Knowledge of transport legislation and fleet compliance requirements.

Salary: £15.00ph plus an extra £2.75ph for any weekend working and for any hours worked between 21:00pm and 04:00am.
An additional £20.00 per shift will be received for any office cover.
- Shift Hours: Start times will vary depending on business need- likely to be between 18:00pm- 21:00pm. Any 5 out of 7, flexibility is required.
