As a Class 1 Driver, you will:
- Deliver goods to retail stores on a dedicated contract using curtain side, tail lift, and box trailers, while returning store waste to the depot.
- Complete an average of 1 to 3 delivery drops per shift in line with schedule and route planning.
- Ensure all loads are safely and securely restrained using straps, nets, and appropriate securing equipment to prevent movement or damage during transit.
- Safely operate electric‑assisted pallet trucks and carry out manual handling for cage‑based deliveries when required, ensuring efficient and safe unloading at customer sites.
- Manage trailer movements, including the collection and return of trailers for servicing at the end of each shift.
- Perform comprehensive daily vehicle safety checks using your company phone to maintain top‑notch vehicle safety and reliability.
- Maintain regular communication with the transport office to provide updates on delivery progress and respond to any changes or issues in real time.
- Represent the company professionally at every delivery point, ensuring excellent customer service and building strong relationships with store teams.
- Participate in ongoing training and development, including refresher courses and updates on industry regulations, to keep your skills sharp and compliant.
Requirements:
- Must hold a UK Class 1 CE Licence.
- Current DCPC Card and Digital Tachograph Driver Card.
- A minimum of 6 months' HGV driving experience.
- Previous experience delivering to retail or commercial sites (preferred but not essential).
- A strong focus on customer service, with the ability to communicate clearly and courteously.
- The ability to work to tight schedules while maintaining high safety standards.
- A positive, team‑oriented attitude and the ability to work independently when required.
- Good geographical knowledge and route planning awareness.
Compensation & Benefits:
- Competitive Salary: £39,236 per annum on days; £43,786 per annum on nights (includes shift allowance of £17.50 per shift for any shifts starting between 12:00 and 02:00).
- Shift hours: As above.
- Overtime: Paid at an hourly rate of £15.72.
