Main purpose of the role:
Working as part of our Installations Department, we are looking to recruit an experienced Renewable Installer to support the delivery of high-quality renewable heating and hot water installations in domestic homes. The role will mainly involve working in occupied customer properties where homeowners are switching from traditional gas boilers to air source heat pump systems, with some retrofit projects also required. This will include installing air source heat pumps, cylinders, low temperature heating systems, controls and associated pipework in line with manufacturer instructions, MCS requirements, health and safety standards and company procedures. The successful candidate will take pride in delivering neat, compliant and customer-focused installations, working respectfully in customers’ homes and with colleagues, supervisors and other trades to ensure each project is completed safely, efficiently and to a high standard.
Main Duties/Responsibilities
- Install renewable heating and hot water systems in domestic properties, mainly air source heat pump systems for customers replacing existing gas boilers.
- Work from drawings, specifications, designs and manufacturer instructions to complete installations safely and accurately.
- Support commissioning activities by ensuring systems are installed, labelled, filled, flushed, tested and prepared correctly.
- Complete installation paperwork, photographs, job notes and handover information accurately using company systems and mobile devices.
- Work closely with Project Managers, Supervisors, electricians, builders and other trades to keep installation work on programme.
- Respect customers’ homes, completing all work in a clean, tidy and professional manner while minimising disruption during the installation process.
- Strictly follow all health and safety procedures, risk assessments, method statements and relevant industry standards.
- Take responsibility for company tools, equipment, vehicle cleanliness and van stock levels where applicable.
- Act as a company ambassador by providing a high level of customer service and maintaining Gregor’s professional reputation on every job.
Physical Ability to:
- Drive company vehicles safely for short and extended periods.
- Carry, lift, and transport tools, and equipment safely, including up stairs or over short distances.
- Move Solar panels using mechanical aids
- Access and work safely from steps, MEWPS ladders, scaffolding, or roofs.
- Perform tasks requiring manual dexterity and physical coordination, e.g., installing panels and electrical components.
- Work in confined spaces or on partially constructed roofs as required.
- Perform tasks that may involve prolonged standing, walking, kneeling, or crouching.
- Have good vision, with or without corrective aids, sufficient to drive safely and read paperwork, manuals, or use IT devices.
- Read, interpret, and follow technical instructions, manuals, schematics, safety procedures, and regulatory guidance accurately.
Confidence and Ability to:
- Communicate effectively with customers, colleagues, and site teams.
- Use tablets, laptops, or other devices safely for reporting, diagnostics, and communication, following basic DSE guidance.
- Assess risks, follow instructions, and make safe decisions under variable or unexpected conditions.
Experience
- Previous experience installing heat pumps, renewable technologies, heating systems or plumbing and hot water systems.
- Good practical understanding of domestic plumbing, heating pipework, cylinders, controls and low temperature heating systems.
- Experience working in occupied domestic properties, including boiler replacement, heating upgrades or retrofit installation projects.
- Ability to read and follow installation drawings, technical instructions, method statements and manufacturer guidance.
- Knowledge of leading manufacturers such as Daikin, Mitsubishi, Vaillant or similar would be an advantage.
- Understanding of MCS requirements and quality standards for renewable installations would be desirable.
- Competent with basic electrics and controls interface work, within personal competence and qualification limits.
- Strong communication and customer service skills.
- Experience of working safely on site, including following risk assessments, method statements and health and safety procedures.
Essential Qualifications and Skills
- NVQ Level 2 or Level 3 Plumbing and Heating, or equivalent relevant trade qualification.
- Unvented hot water qualification, including commissioning and installation.
- Domestic air source heat pump qualification, or proven installation experience with willingness to complete required training.
- Full UK driving licence, with a maximum of six penalty points.
- Good general IT skills, including the ability to complete job records, photographs, checklists and documentation using mobile devices such as an iPad or laptop.
Additional Desirable Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- Level 3 Award in the Installation and Maintenance of Heat Pump Systems.
- Ground source heat pump installation qualification or experience.
- Level 3 solar thermal hot water systems qualification.
- 18th Edition, Part P or other relevant electrical qualification.
- Gas Safe, OFTEC or F-Gas qualifications would be an advantage but are not essential.
- CSCS card, asbestos awareness, working at height, manual handling or other site safety training.
