We have a fantastic opportunity to join our Business Change team and lead our Project Management capability within the IT & Business Change function - growing our delivery maturity, shaping best‑practice ways of working, and driving high‑value initiatives that support Greggs’ growth and transformation.
As a Senior Project Manager, you will own the PM capability, driving project maturity whilst delivering great outcomes for Greggs. This role shapes the project delivery strategy for the whole IT&BC function which you will achieve by partnering with senior leaders. You will become part of a fast-growing, progressive working environment as we continue to grow our business. As a member of the Business Change Team, you’ll be required to both lead on project delivery and also define and lead the team’s continuous improvement strategy.

This is a full-time role, however flexibility in this will be considered. We know that having a work-life balance is important, so we offer our colleagues as much flexibility as possible in line with the needs of their role. The base location for this role is Innovate House, Newcastle upon Tyne. Ideally, you'll live within one hour travel of this location.
The primary responsibility of this role will be planning and delivering agreed changes to the business safely and within agreed guidelines as well as:
- Lead, mentor and line‑manage the IT&BC PM team, building a high‑performing and accountable delivery culture
- Own the Project Management Strategy and embed best‑practice delivery methods
- Establish and maintain governance frameworks and standards
- Partner with senior leaders to define and shape project outcomes and success criteria
- Contribute to portfolio planning, capacity modelling, and the IT&BC strategic roadmap
You will already have experience of leading project teams and will show the aptitude to develop an internal network at Greggs however, to be really successful in this role, we’re looking for candidates who are:
- Experience maturing a PM function (processes, governance, tools)
- Ability to challenge constructively and influence cross‑functionally — especially at Ops Board level
- Proven ability to create clarity from ambiguity
- Confidence in balancing strategic planning and hands‑on delivery
Success in this role looks like:
- A high‑performing PM team with clear standards and ways of working
- A measurable uplift in delivery maturity, governance consistency and project outcomes
- Strong relationships built with senior stakeholders across the business functions
- PM capacity and resource planning operating at a predictable, data‑driven level
The successful candidate must be able to demonstrate:
- Have achieved the Project Management Professional (PMP) qualification (or similar) and understand intimately how to implement it as a way of working
- Experience of building and leading a team of project management professionals with direct line management responsibility. A leader with a proven track record in people management and people development
- The ability to be a self-starter with a proactive approach to daily tasks, overcoming problems and maintaining momentum
- Experience of delivering IT projects using practical examples to describe challenges and successes
- Experience across a range of delivery methodologies and ability to demonstrate an understanding of the differences and pros and cons of these approaches
- Have experience of influencing cross functionally up to Ops Board Level
- Are self-motivated with the ability to work under pressure and using own initiative
