A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a Purchasing Manager or Quantity Surveyor/Estimator to join our GNFR Procurement Team, with specific responsibility for shopfitting cost control across a large, fast moving estate. The team is responsible for sourcing circa ÂŁ180m of goods and services across shops, Head Office and Manufacturing & Logistics, covering a wide range of categories including capital projects and shopfitting.

The role will provide procurement support to internal project teams delivering multiple capital projects, requiring close collaboration with internal stakeholders and external suppliers. You will be responsible for forward planning procurement activity to meet tight project deadlines, while managing supplier performance and resolving issues through effective cross‑functional working. This is an excellent opportunity to develop a purchasing career within a successful organisation and supportive team environment.

The successful candidate will be an expert negotiator with strong interpersonal, communication and supplier management skills, and will bring a Quantity Surveyor or Estimator background to ensure robust cost control and value delivery.

About the role

This is a full‑time role. We know that having a work‑life balance is important, so we offer our colleagues as much flexibility as possible in line with the needs of their role. The base location for this role is Greggs House, Newcastle Upon Tyne although there will be some travel required as part of the role to visit suppliers and shops.

What you'll do:

  • Review Principal Contractor individual project cost submissions for each shopfit/refit including validation of measurements, specifications, project duration, equipment inclusion and quantities, and nominated subcontractor/supplier quotes to ensure accuracy and correctness
  • Provide new shop estimates to the property team
  • Challenge the supplier/Principal contractor using evidence based on the above to drive down the costs and manage within budget
  • Update Standard Schedule of Rates to mirror design format
  • Ensure certainty of supply, mitigation of risks, best quality and value
  • Driving value for money ensuring that key research, monitoring and evaluation is completed to ensure value is maintained
  • Managing and resolving day to day issues with suppliers in a timely and effective manner
  • Delivering Procurement Support for Key Strategic Company Projects
  • Support and contribute to our Responsible Sourcing processes and goals ensuring we work within the ISO20400 framework
  • Reviewing processes and standards to maintain customer focus and ensuring best practice is achieved
  • Developing and fostering good relationships with both internal and external stakeholders

About you

You will fit right into this role if you:

  • Have strong negotiation experience
  • Have experience working in a QS role on high‑value projects
  • Are highly numerate with strong analytical skills
  • Are a self‑starter, able to plan and organise your time effectively
  • Have a proven track record of delivering value and driving continuous improvement
  • Are articulate, with excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Are assertive and tenacious, with the ability to manage internal and external stakeholders diplomatically
  • Possess strong interpersonal and influencing skills
  • Can research key cost drivers and ensure procurement activities are aligned accordingly
  • Are team‑oriented, with a passion for achieving both personal and collective objectives
  • Have good working knowledge of Microsoft Office 365, with experience of SAP and Ariba desirable
  • Have experience working with JCT forms of contract (beneficial but not essential)
