We have a fantastic opportunity to join the Procurement team at Greggs as Packaging Purchasing Manager. You will be responsible for managing packaging procurement activities that directly support our retail operations. This includes ownership of packaging listings, pricing, supplier engagement, PIR management, and compliance with procurement and delegated authority processes. The role ensures data integrity, operational continuity and commercial performance across all packaging categories.

About the role

This is a full-time role, however flexibility in this will be considered. We know that having a work-life balance is important, so we offer our colleagues as much flexibility as possible in line with the needs of their role. The base location for this role is Greggs House in Newcastle.

What you’ll do:

  • Developing the strategy for the areas of responsibility to ensure certainty of supply, mitigation of risks, best quality and value.
  • Negotiating Commercial and Contractual terms for all Retail packaging required.
  • Driving value for money ensuring that key research, monitoring and evaluation is completed to ensure value is maintained.
  • Developing key relationships with suppliers to ensure Greggs receives commercially attractive terms ahead of the market average.
  • Support Development and Retail teams to provide innovative solutions to Retail packaging requirements.
  • Managing and resolving day to day issues with suppliers in a timely and effective manner.
  • Identifying and negotiating appropriate specifications and SLAs for all packaging supplied.
  • Support and contribute to our Responsible Sourcing processes and goals.
  • Reviewing processes and standards to maintain customer focus and ensuring best practice is achieved.
  • Developing and fostering good relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.

About you

You will fit right into this role if you:

  • Are experienced in sourcing packaging ideally in Foodservice and/or Retail.
  • Can demonstrate experience in negotiation ideally with a CIPS qualification.
  • Can demonstrate excellent organisational skills with strong attention to detail.
  • Can multi-task and work with multiple priorities at pace, delivering results within tight timescales.
  • Have a track record of forming and strengthening trusted relationships with business stakeholders and a proven ability to work cross functionally and collaboratively.
  • Have excellent written & verbal communication skills and the ability to present ideas and opportunities (including using known presentational tools).
  • Are self-motivated with the ability to work under pressure and using own initiative.
  • Enjoy being part of a hard-working team, sharing the same end goal, and celebrating results together.
