A fantastic opportunity has now arisen for a Buyer (Good Not For Resale) to join our Procurement team at our Head Office in Newcastle upon Tyne. Reporting to the Senior Purchasing Manager for Capital Equipment, the successful candidate will support our manufacturing and logistics sites with purchasing expertise for capex and revenue spend with particular focus on fleet and logistics procurement. Our fleet category includes capital procurement of HGVs, LCVs, MHE, and associated services, plus ancillary logistics equipment and commercial responsibility of our 3PL suppliers.

About the role

What you'll do
The successful candidate will need to effectively communicate with both suppliers and internal stakeholders, ensuring that the appropriate quality and quantity of goods and services are available, when and where required, and to the agreed functional specification.
Key Responsibilities:
- Own and lead the Fleet Procurement category, supporting the Logistics team’s priorities, leading end-to-end source-to-contract activity: sourcing approach, commercial evaluation, negotiation, approvals and contract award
- To take responsibility for sourcing goods and services to support our engineering and manufacturing teams
- To extract and analyse SAP data to identify opportunities to drive value or consolidate supplier spends
- To review processes and standards to maintain customer focus and identify and implement best practice
- To maintain good relationships with both internal and external customers and suppliers
- To support the Purchasing Managers on larger projects as required
About you
You will fit right into this role if you:
- Have experience of negotiating better pricing, tender processes or driving value from supplier interactions
- Have experience of dealing with multiple tasks simultaneously
- Have experience of reporting from SAP, or other ERP or finance systems, and utilising Excel, BI and AI to analyse data
- Are highly numerate and literate with strong analytical skills
- Are a self-starter who is able to plan and organise their time effectively
- Have a track record of delivering value and continuous improvement
- Are assertive and tenacious and able to demonstrate a capability to manage internal and external contacts with diplomacy and ensure stakeholder engagement
- Are team orientated with a passion for achieving both personal and collaborative objectives
- Have a good knowledge of Microsoft Office 365 suite, and ideally SAP and Ariba
- Can be flexible with your working hours and have a can do attitude
