Twilight Hours UTC Emergency Care Practitioner (ECP)

Shift Hours: 16:00-02:00 and 16:00-00:00. Permanent salaried, full or part time. 365 days, night shift.

Overview

UTC ECP (Urgent Care Team Enhanced Clinical Practitioner) works autonomously within a multidisciplinary team providing assessment, diagnostics, treatment, advice and referrals in South‑East London. Key clinical leadership role within the department.

Key Responsibilities

• Take responsibility for assigned patients through the streaming process.
• Perform assessment, develop and implement clinical treatment plans using advanced clinical knowledge and skills.
• Perform diagnostics including ECGs, blood tests, urinalysis and X‑rays.
• Discuss treatment options and implications with patients and carers.
• Instigate and implement clinical management and treatment changes when appropriate.
• Contribute to care guidelines and standards; support audit and governance activities.
• Ensure health and safety, risk management, and clinical governance compliance.
• Provide expert advice and second opinions to junior staff.
• Provide communication and relationship support to patients, carers and external partners.
• Maintain patient records, compliance with policies, and participate in audits and improvement activities.
• Support policy making, clinical guidelines and contribute to service development.
• Manage clinical resources efficiently and maintain equipment; provide safety culture.
• Act as ambassador, promote equality, diversity and safety culture.

Qualifications

• Qualified Emergency Care Practitioner (Level 6 or above – Minor Injuries and Minor Illnesses).

Experience

• Minimum 2 years experience in Primary, Urgent or Emergency Care within the last 5 years.

Skills & Knowledge

• Knowledge of clinical systems (EMIS, Cerner, Adastra, CLEO).
• Good interpersonal and patient care skills.
• Effective communication with a wide range of stakeholders.
• Teamwork and autonomous working ability.
• Work under pressure and prioritise workload.
• Maintain confidentiality.
• Support and develop implementation of change processes.

Personal and Professional Requirements

• Active professional registration (e.g. GMC or NMC).
• Not subject to suspension under section 41A of the Medical Act 1983.
• Annual mandatory NHS appraisal required.
