Role Purpose
The Head of FP&A will lead and develop a high-performing Financial Planning & Analysis function, delivering forward-looking insight to support strategic decision-making, sustainable growth and value creation. The role will own the full planning cycle, including budgeting, forecasting, long-range planning and performance analysis, translating complex financial information into clear, actionable insight for senior leadership and investors. In a PE-backed environment, the role will act as a strategic partner to the Boards and leadership team, supporting organic growth, acquisitions and integration through robust financial modelling, scenario analysis and commercial evaluation. The Head of FP&A will play a critical role in aligning financial strategy with business objectives, improving profitability, managing risk and ensuring the firm is well-positioned to scale and deliver against its long-term growth and integration ambitions.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the annual budgeting, periodic forecasting and long-range planning processes, ensuring alignment with the firm’s strategic and growth objectives.
- Deliver high-quality financial analysis and insight to the Board and leadership team, supporting informed, data-driven decision-making.
- Develop and maintain robust financial models to support organic growth initiatives, investment decisions and acquisition activity.
- Partner with senior stakeholders across the business to drive commercial performance, challenge assumptions and identify opportunities for improved profitability, working capital and cash.
- Ensure timely, accurate and insightful weekly, monthly and annual performance reporting, including KPIs relevant to a fast growing business.
- Support M&A activity, including financial due diligence, valuation, business case development and post-acquisition integration planning.
- Build and enhance FP&A processes, systems and controls to support scalability, efficiency and integration across the firm.
- Lead, develop and mentor the FP&A team, fostering a high-performance culture and ensuring capability keeps pace with the firm’s growth ambitions.
Person Specification
- A credible and commercially minded leader, able to operate as a trusted adviser to the Board and senior stakeholders.
- Strong influencing skills, with the confidence to challenge constructively and drive better business outcomes.
- Minimum 5-10 years’ experience FP&A in a highly acquisitive business.
- Significant experience in PE backed businesses, working closely with PE investors and Advisors, including refinancing and exit preparation and execution.
- Highly collaborative, with the ability to build effective relationships across functions and integrate diverse teams.
- Strategic thinker with a hands-on approach, comfortable operating at both a conceptual and detailed level.
- Results-focused, with a strong sense of ownership and accountability for delivering against ambitious growth plans.
- Resilient and adaptable, able to thrive in a fast-paced, changing and often ambiguous environment.
- Clear and impactful communicator, able to distil complex issues into simple, compelling messages.
- Strong leadership presence, with a track record of developing high-performing teams and creating a positive, high-performance culture.
Experience
- Professionally qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent), with strong technical grounding and the ability to apply financial principles in a commercial context.
- Deep expertise in financial planning, budgeting, forecasting and long-range planning within a complex, multi-entity environment.
- Advanced financial modelling skills, including scenario planning, sensitivity analysis, investment appraisal and cashflow modelling.
- Strong understanding of management reporting, KPI development and performance analysis, ideally within a professional services context.
- Experience supporting M&A activity, including financial due diligence, valuation, debt structures and post-acquisition integration.
- Knowledge of best in class Data analytics including Data cubes, PowerBI and dashboards.
