We are looking for an experienced Solar PV Designer to join our team. This role will focus on designing systems ranging from commercial-scale projects (200 kW) up to large utility-scale solar farms (60 MW). You'll be responsible for producing high-quality designs, drawings, and documentation through both the pre-construction and construction phases.

Key Responsibilities

  • Electrical design of HV and LV systems for power generation projects, primarily utility-scale and commercial solar PV.
  • Develop and review system architecture and Single Line Diagrams (SLDs) from concept through to detailed design.
  • Manage and coordinate grid connection applications and technical submissions with the relevant DNO.
  • Ensure compliance with grid code and connection standards including G99 and G100.
  • Coordinate grid studies, including load flow, fault level, protection coordination, and power quality assessments.
  • Define and specify primary plant including transformers, switchgear, protection systems, inverters, and metering.
  • Support protection design and relay settings in line with grid requirements and DNO specifications.
  • Review and respond to DNO connection offers and technical queries.
  • Provide technical input during procurement, FAT/SAT, commissioning, and energisation.
  • Support design reviews, risk assessments, and value engineering exercises.
  • Ensure designs comply with relevant standards such as BS, IEC, ENA and site-specific requirements.

Experience and Qualifications

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline.
  • Proven experience designing HV and LV systems within the power generation sector.
  • Strong experience in solar PV projects preferred.
  • Demonstrable experience managing grid connections and direct engagement with DNOs.
  • Solid understanding of G99 and G100 requirements.
  • Experience producing and reviewing SLDs, protection philosophies, and overall system architecture.
  • Hands-on experience with grid studies (load flow, fault level, protection coordination).
  • Familiarity with grid modelling tools such as ETAP, or similar.
  • Knowledge of UK grid code and ENA standards.
