We have partnerships across Europe relying on local knowledge and market expertise. We’re looking for an experienced Commissioning Engineer to take ownership of the commissioning process for utility-scale solar projects. You’ll be responsible for managing, executing, and documenting all commissioning activities, ensuring safe, compliant, and efficient grid connection and operation of large-scale renewable energy systems.

The role requires strong technical knowledge of HV systems up to 132kV, a solid understanding of protection systems, and hands-on experience delivering grid-connected solar projects. You’ll work closely with project engineers, ICP contractors, and local DNOs to bring each site online safely and on schedule.

You will be responsible for the execution of Hot and Cold commissioning, which will include visual inspection, IR testing, wiring continuity/point to point check, CT/VT IR test, ductor test, secondary current injection test and possibly hipot test. Functional operation of switchgear to include interlocking.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and carry out the commissioning of utility-scale solar farms from initial testing through to grid connection and handover.
  • Manage commissioning plans, schedules, and documentation to ensure full compliance with project and regulatory requirements.
  • Perform testing and configuration of protection relays, including fault analysis, settings verification, and final approval with the DNO.
  • LV cold commissioning.
  • Commission and operate HV and LV switchgear, including the operation of circuit breakers and measurement of CT/VT values.
  • Execute G99 and G100 testing, ensuring compliance with grid code requirements.
  • Support and review electrical designs, contributing to design modifications or improvements where required.
  • Liaise with ICPs, DNOs, and grid operators to coordinate testing and approvals.
  • Verify the correct operation of SCADA, metering, and communication systems during commissioning.
  • Maintain accurate commissioning records, settings files, and test reports.
  • Ensure all work is completed safely and in accordance with company procedures and relevant standards.
Required Experience
  • Proven experience commissioning utility-scale solar PV or large renewable energy projects.
  • Strong understanding of HV systems up to 132kV, including protection, control, and switching operations.
  • Experience with grid connection processes and dealing with DNOs and ICPs.
  • Hands-on experience with protection relay configuration and testing (e.g., Micom, Siemens, ABB, Schneider or similar).
  • Solid working knowledge of G99/G100 compliance testing.
  • Familiar with electrical design principles, single-line diagrams, and grid/electrical studies.
  • Excellent organisational and communication skills with a practical approach to problem solving.
Technical Qualifications
  • Degree or HND in Electrical or Power Engineering (or equivalent experience).
  • Recognised HV operational authorisation (SAP or AP level) desirable.
  • Certified experience or training in protection relay testing and configuration.
  • ECS/CSCS and HV/LV authorisations as appropriate for site work.
  • Full UK driving licence.
