We are seeking a skilled and motivated Solar PV Designer specialising in commercial and solar installations to join our team. The ideal candidate will have experience in designing rooftop and ground mount solar arrays, utilising specialist software such as IECO, PVSyst, and PV-SOL. This role requires a deep understanding of various string type installations as well as SolarEdge systems, along with the ability to assess building and site installation risks.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and Layout: Develop detailed designs for commercial and rooftop solar installations, as well as ground mount systems. Create and provide layout drawings to assist with planning applications and project proposals. Utilise specialist software (IECO, PVsyst, PV-SOL) for accurate system design and performance analysis.
  • Technical Review and Improvement: Review and evaluate design drawings from other engineers and suggest improvements to enhance efficiency and effectiveness. Collaborate with the Senior Technical Manager on HV and LV designs and systems, providing valuable input and recommendations.
  • Site Surveys and Risk Assessment: Conduct on-site surveys during the tender stage to gather necessary information for accurate design and planning. Assess building and site installation risks, ensuring all potential issues are identified and mitigated.
  • Collaboration and Communication: Liaise with the sales team to assist with preliminary tender designs and ensure they meet client requirements and expectations. Work closely with the construction team to refine preliminary designs into detailed construction-ready plans.
  • Data Analysis and Reporting: Extrapolate electrical data for data files to evaluate the cost savings and financial benefits of proposed solar system designs. Provide detailed ROI (Return on Investment) reports to support business cases and client proposals.
  • Travel Requirements: Be willing and able to travel to various sites as required for on-site surveys and project assessments.
Qualifications
  • Proven experience in designing commercial and rooftop solar installations, as well as ground mount systems.
  • Proficiency in specialist design software (IECO, PVsyst, PV-SOL).
  • Strong understanding of various string type installations and SolarEdge systems.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication and collaboration abilities.
  • Ability to work to tight deadlines.
  • Ability to travel to various sites as required.
Preferred Skills
  • Experience with planning application processes and requirements.
  • Knowledge of building codes, safety regulations, and risk assessment practices.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Experience in providing detailed ROI reports and financial analysis for solar projects.
