We are looking for an experienced Quantity Surveyor and Estimator to join our EPC engineering team delivering utility-scale and commercial and industrial solar projects across the UK. This is a dual-function role with a strong emphasis on commercial quantity surveying responsibilities in the first instance. You will take ownership of the commercial administration of live projects while also supporting the tendering and estimating function as workload requires.

You will work closely with project managers, engineers, procurement and finance, acting as the commercial backbone of the project lifecycle from contract award through to final account.

Key Requirements
  • Commercial & Quantity Surveying (Primary Focus)
  • Lead the commercial management of EPC solar projects from contract award to completion.
  • Review, interpret and manage EPC contract terms and conditions, identifying commercial risks and opportunities.
  • Support negotiation of client contracts and amendments from a commercial and risk perspective.
  • Prepare and submit monthly valuations, applications for payment, and milestone invoices in line with contract requirements.
  • Assess and certify subcontractor applications for payment, milestone claims, and variations.
  • Manage change control processes including valuation of variations, extensions of time, and compensation events.
  • Track project costs against budget, forecast final account positions, and report on commercial performance.
  • Develop and maintain detailed project cash flow forecasts across the full project lifecycle.
  • Manage retention, bonds, warranties, and other contractual securities.
  • Prepare and agree final accounts with clients and subcontractors.
  • Support dispute avoidance and resolution processes where required.
  • Estimating & Tender Support (Secondary Focus)
    • Assist in the preparation of detailed cost estimates for utility-scale and C&I solar tenders.
    • Carry out quantity take-offs and site measure validations.
    • Liaise with suppliers and subcontractors to obtain competitive pricing.
    • Contribute to risk allowances, preliminaries, and programme-related cost inputs.
    • Support value engineering exercises to enhance bid competitiveness.
    • Participate in internal tender reviews and commercial sign-off processes.
  • Site & Stakeholder Engagement
    • Attend client meetings, commercial reviews, and progress meetings.
    • Conduct site visits and walkthroughs to validate measures, assess progress, and support valuations.
    • Work closely with project managers and site teams to ensure commercial alignment.
    • Support procurement in subcontract package preparation and commercial evaluation.
    Qualification
    • Degree qualified in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, or similar (or equivalent experience).
    • Proven experience as a Quantity Surveyor within EPC, construction, infrastructure, or renewable energy projects.
    • Experience working on solar PV, utilities, or energy infrastructure projects is highly desirable.
    • Strong understanding of UK construction contracts (e.g., NEC, JCT or bespoke EPC agreements).
    • Demonstrable experience managing monthly valuations, subcontractor claims, and cash flow forecasting.
    • Experience supporting estimating or tender functions.
    • Commercially astute with a strong grasp of risk management and contract administration.
    • Comfortable working both in the office and on project sites across the UK.
    • RICS chartership or working towards it would be an advantage.
