We are seeking an experienced Solar Commissioning Engineer to join our Solar team, supporting the delivery of Commercial & Industrial (C&I) and Utility Scale solar PV projects.

This role is responsible for leading and executing commissioning activities from installation through to energisation and handover, ensuring systems are commissioned safely, efficiently, and in accordance with project specifications and grid requirements.

The successful candidate will have a strong technical background in solar PV commissioning and be comfortable working on live construction sites, coordinating with EPC teams, clients and Distribution Network Operators (DNOs)

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and execute commissioning activities for C&I and utility-scale solar PV projects.
  • Configure and commission string inverter systems.
  • Commission SCADA systems, communications networks, and plant control systems.
  • Carry out point-to-point testing of field devices, control wiring, and communications.
  • Perform functional testing of plant control systems and verify operational sequences.
  • Conduct G99 commissioning and injection testing to demonstrate compliance with grid connection requirements.
  • Verify plant performance, alarms, monitoring systems, and data acquisition.
  • Support energisation activities and witness testing alongside DNOs and clients.
  • Produce commissioning records, test reports, red-line documentation, and handover packs.
  • Diagnose and resolve commissioning issues across electrical, communications, and control systems.
  • Ensure all commissioning activities are completed in accordance with health, safety, and quality procedures.

Essential Skills and Experience

  • Experience commissioning C&I and utility-scale solar PV projects.
  • Strong knowledge of solar PV plant commissioning processes.
  • Experience configuring and commissioning inverter systems.
  • Experience commissioning SCADA and plant control systems.
  • Competent in point-to-point testing and functional testing.
  • Experience carrying out G99 injection testing and grid compliance testing.
  • Ability to read and interpret single line diagrams, schematics, wiring diagrams, and control philosophies.

Desirable Skills

  • Understanding of power system studies and grid integration.
  • Experience with HV and MV electrical systems.
  • Knowledge of HV switching procedures and safe systems of work.
  • Experience with electrical protection relays, protection settings, and protection testing.
  • Familiarity with G100 export limitation systems.
  • Experience working alongside DNOs and National Grid commissioning teams.
  • Knowledge of battery energy storage systems (BESS).
  • Electrical qualifications such as HNC/HND, Degree, or equivalent in Electrical Engineering.
  • Authorised Person (AP) or Senior Authorised Person (SAP) experience.
